Microsoft Debunks That It Sets a 30% Profit Margin Goal for Xbox Games

Microsoft has confirmed that it never instructed its Xbox gaming division to aim for a 30% profit margin, refuting previous reports to the contrary.

CNBC recently published a report featuring Microsoft, addressing several challenges and issues the company has faced in the last year, and clarifying some misinformation.

CNBC reports that Microsoft is aiming for a 30% profit margin for its Xbox gaming division, according to a Bloomberg report. To reach this goal, the company has been making cuts, including layoffs and the cancellation of some projects.

Microsoft CFO Amy Hood reportedly set a company-wide goal of 30% growth, encompassing all divisions including Xbox, according to Bloomberg. Other sources in the industry have confirmed hearing about these aggressive targets.

The 30% target is much higher than the industry standard, which averages 17-22%.

Microsoft addressed recent rumors, telling CNBC that although they always aim high, the claim of a 30% profit margin goal isn’t accurate.

Xbox has faced a challenging year, with job cuts affecting thousands and the cancellation of several games, including Perfect Dark, Everwild, and a new online game codenamed Blackbird. Recently, Xbox announced it won’t be releasing its annual ‘Xbox Wrapped’ summary this year because of budget limitations.

We’re waiting to see if Bloomberg will share further details about Microsoft’s plans, and we’ll update this article if we learn more.
