December 28 Will be The End Of An Era For One Piece

For the past 26 years, the One Piece anime from Toei Animation has consistently been a high-quality show. While it’s had its share of good and bad episodes, it’s largely remained a weekly highlight for fans.

One Piece is entering a new era. The year’s final episode on December 28, 2025, will conclude the Egghead arc and mark the end of the anime being released weekly. Starting in 2026, One Piece will switch to a seasonal format, with only 26 episodes per year instead of the usual 40+. While this is a significant change, the anime will be back with the Elbaf arc in April 2026.

The One Piece Anime is Going on a Long Break on December 28

  • One Piece Anime Is Set To Go On A Big Hiatus
  • One Piece Is Now Fully Seasonal

The One Piece anime is preparing for a significant hiatus. The final episode of the current story arc, Episode 1155 titled “The Promised Horizon At Long Last, Towards the Long-Awaited Elbaf,” will air on December 28, 2025, and will conclude the Egghead arc. This will be followed by the long-awaited journey to Elbaf.

Following the current arc, One Piece will be on hiatus for three months. While not as lengthy as the break planned for the end of 2024, fans will still need to be patient while they wait for new episodes.

The One Piece Anime Is Officially Going Seasonal

Watching the latest One Piece, episode 1155, really felt like the end of a chapter. It seems the anime is making a big change that honestly, no one predicted! After being a weekly show for nearly thirty years, One Piece is clearly heading in a new direction.

Currently, the One Piece anime releases around 46 episodes each year. Starting in 2026, however, it will switch to 26 episodes annually. These 26 episodes will be divided into two parts, with a three-month break between each part.

This change will have a significant impact, likely making One Piece anime arcs much longer. The Wano arc, which took Toei Animation four years and 195 episodes to adapt, could now take over seven years. While Toei has promised to improve the pacing and aim for adapting one manga chapter per episode, that’s not much of an improvement over the current slow pace of the Egghead arc.

The One Piece Anime Returns In April 2026

I’ve noticed a lot of One Piece fans are already talking about the upcoming anime break, which starts on December 28th, 2025, and what will happen when it returns. There’s a huge buzz around the possibility of the Elbaf arc finally being animated – it’s something fans have been anticipating for years, even going back to before the timeskip!

Good news for One Piece fans: the show will be back with the new Elbaf arc on April 5, 2026! It’s a long wait, but the Elbaf arc promises to be fantastic.

At the recent Jump Festa 2026 event, a new trailer for the upcoming Elbaf arc of One Piece was unveiled. Although still a work in progress, the trailer offered a glimpse of exciting things to come. Fans are eagerly anticipating the next season of the anime, which is scheduled to return in April 2026.

Right now, the manga is all fans have to enjoy. However, manga readers should know that there will be some pauses in the story due to the holidays and Eiichiro Oda’s planned time off. Despite this, 2026 looks like it will be a thrilling year, with Luffy and his crew getting closer and closer to finding the One Piece!

Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga, One Piece, follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they search for the legendary treasure called the One Piece. The story is currently in its final arc. A new chapter, number 1169, will be released this week in Weekly Shonen Jump on December 21, 2025. In Japan, it will be available at midnight on Monday, which is 11:00 AM Eastern Time and 8:00 AM Pacific Time. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app, and reading through these official platforms helps support the creator.
