Escape From Tarkov: Blue Fire Quest Guide

Okay, so the game starts with me, as a private military contractor, waking up in the TerraGroup building. There’s just been a huge explosion, and everything’s gone dark – all communication is down. It’s a pretty jarring way to start, and immediately throws you into the chaos of Tarkov!

So, I finally got my feet under me after following the Tour quests and unlocking the Mechanic. And honestly, I was immediately curious about that big explosion – I had to know what that was all about!

Okay, so I’ve been digging into the Blue Fire quest, and it’s seriously the key to understanding what happened with that whole ‘blue fire’ thing. Basically, I’m playing as a private investigator – used to be PMC – and I’m trying to piece together everything about the incident. It totally changed Tarkov, and this quest is where you find out all the details, or at least, as many as you can.

How to Unlock the Blue Fire Quest

There are two ways to start the Blue Fire quest.

To begin, simply go inside the designated room located at 13 Chekannaya Street on the Streets of Tarkov map. The quest will start as soon as you enter.

To get inside, you’ll need the Mysterious Room Marked Key. It’s a rare item that appears in filing cabinets and on scavs, but you can also find it for sale on the Flea Market – though it’s very expensive, costing millions of roubles.

You’ll need this key to finish the Blue Fire quest, so make sure to buy one with at least two uses remaining.

If you’d prefer not to pay upfront, you can begin the Blue Fire quest by finding and reading the flyers posted near the EMERCOM tents on the Interchange and Woods maps.

We strongly suggest finishing the Tour questline before continuing in Blue Fire. You’ll need to be able to access certain shops and areas that aren’t available when you first begin playing.

Talk to Mechanic About the EMP Blast

This mission involves technology far beyond your expertise, so it’s best to consult someone who specializes in it.

Head over to Mechanic and ask him about the EMP blast that caused the city’s electronics to fail. Like most traders, he knows something about it, but be prepared to do some work and gather items to get the full story.

So, Mechanic needs my help figuring out what caused that explosion. Apparently, I need to go find a piece of the broken device that did it. It’s a fetch quest, basically!

Finding the Device Fragment

Something this powerful doesn’t just vanish, so you’ll need to find a fragment of it. Since the explosion happened in the city center, search the Streets of Tarkov map to locate the piece you’re looking for.

You can locate pieces of the device in two places on the map, but unfortunately, both of those areas require rare and costly keys to access.

The Key is a randomly appearing item that unlocks a specific room within the building at 13 Chekannaya Street.

Okay, so there’s a piece of something you can find up in the LexOs car dealership, but you need the Car Dealership Closed Section Key to get to it. Honestly, the easiest way to get that key? Just go in and take out Kaban, the boss. It’s a bit rough, but it works!

You can find the item either hidden in a flower pot in the corner of the designated room, or inside a bin on the table in the closed-off dealership area.

Okay, so once I’ve managed to get something out of one of those containers in my inventory, I need to go chat with the Mechanic to find out what I’m supposed to do next. It’s pretty straightforward!

Hacking the TerraGroup Servers in The Lab

So, the Mechanic wants to know more about this device I found, and to do that, I need to sneak into The Lab and plant a hacking device in TerraGroup’s server room. Seriously, The Lab? That place is a death trap, but I guess that’s Tarkov for you.

To get into The Lab, you’ll need a TerraGroup Labs Access Keycard. You can find one randomly in the game world, buy it from other players on the flea market once you reach level 30, or obtain it from the Therapist or Ref once you’ve reached loyalty level 4 with them.

Okay, so if I haven’t finished the newbie Tour quest, I need to use the quick travel points – the transits – on either the Streets of Tarkov or the Factory map to progress. Basically, gotta use those to get around if I’m still early in the game!

Insurance mechanics do not work in The Lab; anything lost is gone forever.

Put the device in a special slot so you don’t lose it when you die, and then head down to The Lab. You can find the server rack in room B12 on the map, or you can reach it from the floor above in room B21.

Walk up to the server rack and double-check that the area around you is safe. Then, begin installing the hacking device. The installation takes a full minute, and you’ll need to restart the process if anything interrupts it.

Once you are back topside, you need to speak to Mechanic again.

Should You Keep or Sell the Device Fragment?

Mechanic will offer to take the fragment off your hands for 1.5 million roubles.

You need to keep the device to unlock the “Better Served” achievement. However, if you’re low on money, selling it won’t change the story’s outcome.

Find Leads on Object 1156

The final chapter of the Blue Fire quest plays out in the Streets of Tarkov.

Go to the central post office on Primorsky Avenue, across from the Pinewood Hotel, and look around for cassette tapes.

You can find one of the tapes behind the reception, on the blood-stained desk by the dead scav.

The recordings feature messages from the delivery driver. He explains he’s left the package because of what’s happening in the city, and he’s now your next point of interest.

The blue postal van is parked directly in front of the building on Primorsky Avenue. To unlock it, you’ll need the Rus Post Car Key, which always appears behind the van’s back right tire. You might also find it among random items dropped by enemies.

Open the back of the van and grab the blueprints for Object 1156. Once you’ve reviewed them, head into Streets of Tarkov to finish the Blue Fire quest.
