With the new year just around the corner, PlayStation 5 owners have five highly anticipated games to look forward to in January 2026. 2025 was already a great year for PS5, as Sony’s console received many of the best games available on multiple platforms, plus exclusive titles like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei.
2026 looks like a fantastic year for PlayStation 5 owners. If there aren’t any setbacks, Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be released before the end of the year, alongside the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine from the creators of Spider-Man, Insomniac Games. And right now, PS5 players have five major games to enjoy in January.
January starts slow for new PS5 games, which is typical for the industry, but things pick up on January 20th with the release of Mio: Memories in Orbit. Highguard follows on January 26th, and the PS5 exclusive Cairn arrives on January 29th. Fans of action-RPGs can look forward to Code Vein 2 on January 30th, and Riot Games’ free-to-play fighting game, 2XKO, is also scheduled for release sometime in January, though a firm date hasn’t been announced yet. More details about 2XKO’s release should be coming soon.

January 2026 will bring a diverse range of new games for the PS5. Mio: Memories in Orbit is a visually stunning, hand-drawn sci-fi adventure in the style of a Metroidvania. If you prefer shooters, Highguard offers a fantasy take on the team-based action of Overwatch. For something different, Cairn lets you experience the thrill of rock climbing, while Code Vein 2 delivers challenging, anime-inspired action-RPG gameplay. And 2XKO, a fighting game, is unique because it’s set within the world of League of Legends’ Runeterra.
This new fighting game is set in the world of Runeterra, so it includes popular characters like Jinx and Vi from the show Arcane. While we don’t know the exact date in January, the game is expected to be a big hit with fans of Arcane and League of Legends. Plus, it’s free to play, meaning PS5 owners can jump in without spending any money.
The same is true for Highguard. While it’s received a lot of negative feedback since being shown at The Game Awards 2025, it looks like a promising game for fans of hero shooters. The developers previously worked on popular titles like Apex Legends and Titanfall, which suggests Highguard will be enjoyable, and I’m excited to see how it develops. Plus, it’s free-to-play, so you can try it without spending any money. It’s also great to see a game revealed at The Game Awards become available so quickly after the announcement.
I’m excited to play these five games next month and see how they compare. If they’re all good, it looks like January 2026 will be a fantastic start to another strong year for gaming.
