The annual Winter Veil event is happening now in World of Warcraft! Players can get three free rewards – a Rolling Snowball, a Jubilant Snowman Costume, and a Tiny Snowman Buddy – just by visiting the Winter Veil tree in-game. But hurry, the event ends on January 2nd!
Since 2007, every December 25th, World of Warcraft has offered gifts under the Winter Veil tree. Players can open one gift per character, and it typically includes new toys or pets, as well as some classic holiday items. For example, last year’s gifts included the Box of Puntables toy, the Winter Veil Cracker toy, and the Portentous Present battle pet.

- Jubilant Snowman Costume toy
- Tiny Snow Buddy battle pet
With Christmas here, players can still get some free in-game gifts for the Winter Veil event! You can find the Rolling Snowball and Jubilant Snowman Costume toys, plus the Tiny Snow Buddy pet, hidden in special presents. Just collect the presents and finish the short quests they offer before January 2nd to keep these items forever.
The Rolling Snowball toy allows players to create and ride a large snowball that gradually shrinks until it melts. The Jubilant Snowman Costume turns players into a snowman with a unique hat and scarf, letting them throw mischievous presents that launch snowballs at nearby characters and NPCs. Snowmen can also throw much larger snowballs themselves! Both items create piles of snow that can be picked up and thrown, and during the Winter Veil festival, they can be used frequently. Otherwise, there’s a 10-minute cooldown between uses. Finally, the Tiny Snow Buddy is a miniature battle pet version of the snowman, based on its updated design.

Don’t worry if you miss out on the free Winter Veil gifts! Older gifts often reappear as rare drops from the Stolen Present. You can earn this present by completing the daily Abominable Greench quest during the World of Warcraft Winter Veil event. Plus, opening these gifts unlocks a special achievement.
Where is the Feast of Winter Veil Decor for World of Warcraft Housing?
Although the new toys and battle pet are great additions for collectors, they unfortunately don’t address a long-standing request from players: decorations for player housing. Content creators, like MrGM, have found over 60 Winter Veil-themed decorations in the game files – some even worked during the World of Warcraft: Midnight beta test. Despite this, none of these holiday items have been released in the live version of the game.
We’re not quite sure why these decorations weren’t available for Winter Veil this year. While the Housing feature is still new and only available to players who have World of Warcraft: Midnight, everyone can collect decorations, so it wouldn’t have left anyone out. It looks like players will need to wait until next year to decorate their in-game homes for the holidays.
This year’s Winter Veil event in World of Warcraft felt a bit underwhelming, with fewer decorations than usual and a lack of new things to do. However, the developers are probably busy finalizing Midnight, which explains the situation. Thankfully, the cute Winter Veil gifts brightened things up, and hopefully, the extra time spent on Midnight will make it even better.
