Recent online leaks from a trusted source have revealed more information about upcoming LEGO Pokémon sets planned for release in the summer of 2026. The leak suggests possible official names for ten sets that were previously known by only their set numbers. However, one detail might be disappointing for fans excited about the 2026 LEGO Pokémon collection.
LEGO and The Pokémon Company are teaming up for the first time, with plans to release building sets starting in spring 2026. More sets are expected to follow the next summer. While details have surfaced online about nearly two dozen sets, a notable feature is that they appear to be constructed entirely from LEGO bricks and don’t include traditional minifigure characters, which some fans have expressed disappointment about.
At Least 10 of LEGO’s 2026 Pokemon Sets Reportedly Won’t Have Any Minifigs
Following recent leaks, the LEGO-focused Brick Tap community has connected ten set numbers to specific Pokémon sets. The report also claims that none of these sets will include traditional LEGO minifigures. One of these is the previously rumored interactive Pikachu set, which will feature a brick-built Pikachu and a house shaped like Pikachu. This set, numbered 72164, is now believed to be called ‘Pikachu’s Training House’.

The LEGO Pikachu’s Training House set, planned for summer 2026, might not be the only Pokémon set released that year to feature a ‘Smart Brick.’ LEGO is also expected to sell this interactive brick separately next year.
Pokemon Sets May Spearhead LEGO’s Smart Brick Push in 2026
The Pikachu’s Training House LEGO set is unique among recently revealed products because it includes the “Smart Brick,” a new LEGO technology. While other nine sets won’t include it initially, they’re expected to work with the Smart Brick when it gets a wider release in 2026, following a small test launch in the UK this year. This means these sets could be among the first worldwide to offer Smart Brick features.
What Even Is a LEGO Smart Brick?
The Smart Brick is a LEGO brick that brings interactivity to building. It has sensors that let it react to its surroundings by making sounds or lighting up, depending on how it’s used. It’s powered by a rechargeable hub. While not every new LEGO set will come with a Smart Brick, it seems many upcoming sets – including most of the planned LEGO Pokémon sets for summer 2026 – will require you to buy one separately to access all their features. Currently, only three sets are compatible with the Smart Brick, and they’re all part of the LEGO City Jungle theme: the Jungle Explorer Base Camp (60691), the Lost Crocodile Temple (60692), and the Survivor Island Seaplane (60693). These sets were first sold exclusively in the UK in 2025 and are no longer available, but LEGO plans to release more Smart Brick-compatible sets in 2026.
Why LEGO May Be Reluctant To Do Pokemon Minifigs
A recent report from Brick Tap, combined with earlier information, suggests that 13 of the 23 LEGO Pokémon sets planned for 2026 won’t include minifigures. LEGO seems hesitant to use minifigures in this series for a few reasons. Pokémon come in many different sizes, which doesn’t easily fit with the standard size of LEGO minifigures. Making unique molds for each Pokémon minifigure would be expensive, requiring new or modified production lines. Plus, building larger models out of LEGO bricks allows for more creative designs and stays true to LEGO’s building style, while making Pokémon minifigures would likely require compromises that LEGO and The Pokémon Company both want to avoid.
While LEGO Pokémon sets might not completely avoid minifigures, recent reports suggest they won’t be the main focus. It’s likely we’ll see some human characters from Pokémon recreated as LEGO minifigures using existing pieces. If a popular character like Ash Ketchum gets a minifigure, it makes sense that his Pokémon partner, Pikachu, would too—even if that means creating a brand new mold, just like LEGO did for SpongeBob.
