Each year, some games unexpectedly become huge hits. In 2024, titles like Balatro and Helldivers 2 rose from obscurity to become incredibly popular, and 2025 followed the same trend. Games such as Peak, Ball x Pit, Schedule I, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 all took the gaming world by surprise. However, the TopMob community could only choose one as their Biggest Surprise Hit of 2025.
Readers of TopMob voted AdHoc Studio’s Dispatch as the most surprising success of the year in a recent Discord poll.
An adventure game told through episodes won with 27.1% of the vote, surpassing Clair Obscur which received 19.6%. Ball x Pit came in third with 14%, followed by Peak and Blue Prince at 12.1% and 9.3% respectively. Other games that received votes included Schedule I, Escape From Duckov, Where Winds Meet, Lego Voyagers, Wildgate, and Date Everything.
Why Dispatch Was The Biggest Surprise Hit
Dispatch’s success isn’t really a surprise – and that’s no accident! Players have overwhelmingly praised the game on sites like Metacritic, especially its compelling story and how smoothly the gameplay blends with the cinematic cutscenes.
Sending out your team is really fun, and the hacking puzzles are challenging but not overly difficult. Plus, the conversations and voice acting are excellent.
The game truly comes to life thanks to the obvious passion poured into the story and characters. Aaron Paul is perfectly cast as Robert Robertson, and Jeffrey Wright as Chase and Laura Bailey as Invisigal create a real emotional connection for the player. And Royd? He might just be the most compelling character in the whole game.
It’s hard to describe what makes Dispatch so unique – you really need to experience it for yourself to understand.
