It’s awesome to see that 2025 has been such a great year for Nintendo – they launched a bunch of games everyone was waiting for, and the Switch 2 finally came out in June! It’s been a massive hit, and already has some incredible titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza available. I can’t wait to see what else comes out!
2025 has been a fantastic year for Nintendo, largely thanks to the success of its new console. The Switch 2 launched in June and quickly surpassed 6 million units sold globally in under two months. Its launch game, Mario Kart World, was also a huge hit, selling over 1 million physical copies in Japan in just one month. Now, Mario Kart World and the latest Pokemon game are two of Nintendo’s top-performing titles this year.

A remastered version of Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake from Square Enix also performed well, landing at number four on the Japanese charts.

The best-selling games on both the Switch and the new Switch 2 are a familiar mix of popular titles. Pokemon Legends: Z-A almost took the top spot on both consoles, but was just behind the incredibly popular Mario Kart World on the Switch 2. The Inazuma Eleven series remains popular, especially in its home country, ranking 8th on the Switch and 5th on the Switch 2. Nintendo’s classic games continue to perform well too, with titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate still selling consistently.
Nintendo is ending a fantastic 2025 and looking forward to a strong start to 2026. In January, the popular game Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be released for the Switch 2, along with a free update. Two new Nintendo games, Mario Tennis Fever and Pokemon Pokopia, will follow in February and March, respectively. Several well-known games are also coming to the Switch 2, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake on January 22nd and Yakuza Kiwami 3 on February 12th. Nintendo and Switch 2 fans have a lot to look forward to in the new year!
