I absolutely love Jujutsu Kaisen, and honestly, what really makes it special is the characters! Gege Akutami has created such an amazing cast throughout the series. Some of them have even become total icons – you can’t talk about modern anime without mentioning someone like Satoru Gojo, he’s just that popular!
One of the things that makes Jujutsu Kaisen stand out is its strong character development – most of the heroes and villains feel fully realized, which means few characters are truly hated. However, even with such well-crafted characters, a handful consistently frustrate fans. Here’s a look at the five most disliked characters in the series.
Many Feel That Kasumi Miwa Was A Wasted Character
Not Unlikable, But Quite Useless
| First Appearance | Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 18, “Bottom” |
|---|---|
| Story Arc | Fearsome Womb Arc |
- Miwa serves no purpose.
Hello, useless Miwa here!
Miwa stands out from other characters because she actually appreciates her fans. However, while generally liked, many feel she’s an underutilized character who doesn’t significantly impact the story. Her defining characteristic is her weakness, which has prevented her from making a real difference throughout Jujutsu Kaisen, leading to frustration among fans with how she’s portrayed.
Kokichi Muta Betrayed Jujutsu High Quite Readily
Very Little Came Of This
| First Appearance | Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 32, “Introspection” |
|---|---|
| Story Arc | Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc |
- Kokichi betrayed the trust of Jujutsu High.
I messed up, and I don’t have the strength to even follow through with it. It’s all because I’m not strong enough.
Kokichi Muta, secretly Mechamaru, was born with a severe physical limitation that confined him to a bathtub for most of his life, preventing him from experiencing normalcy. Driven by a desire for a cure, he shared confidential information with Pseudo-Geto and the Disaster Curses, contributing to the devastating Shibuya Incident. This act earned him considerable disapproval from many fans of the series.
Naoya Zenin Is A Terrible Person Who Holds Power In The Zenin Clan
The Head of the Zenin
| First Appearance | Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 138, “The Zenin Clan” |
|---|---|
| Story Arc | Itadori’s Extermination Arc |
- Naoya held abhorrent views.
Any woman who can’t walk three steps behind a man should get stabbed in the back and die.
Naoya Zenin is an exceptionally fast and powerful sorcerer, and a key figure within the Zenin clan. However, many fans dislike him because of his prejudiced views and arrogant attitude. This is especially true when he interacts with the popular character Maki, which only reinforces the negative feelings fans have towards him.
Mahito Has Killed Some Of The Series’ Most Beloved Characters
A Sadistic Curse
| First Appearance | Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 16, “Affection” |
|---|---|
| Story Arc | Fearsome Womb Arc |
- Mahito is a depraved villain.
Humans can’t live without making up excuses.
Sukuna is known as a terrifying villain, but Mahito from Jujutsu Kaisen is arguably even more cruel and twisted. His disturbing abilities perfectly reflect his unpleasant personality. Despite this, Mahito is a surprisingly well-developed and captivating villain, and his dynamic with Yuji is a highlight of the series.
Mahito is widely hated because he killed both Nanami and Junpei – Nanami’s death, in particular, was a shocking moment for many fans and involved a character they deeply loved. Despite how much people dislike him, Mahito plays a crucial role in the story that no other character could fulfill.
Haruta Shigemo Literally Doesn’t Even Have A Single Fan
The Most Annoying Character
| First Appearance | Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 52, “Nonstandard” |
|---|---|
| Story Arc | Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc |
- The worst character in the series.
I survived again! My luck never runs out!
Both Mahito and Sukuna, despite being villains responsible for the deaths of fan favorites, are crucial to the larger story of Jujutsu Kaisen and have significantly shaped the world. In contrast, Haruta feels entirely unnecessary. He’s a frustrating character on every level – his personality, his abilities, everything about him comes across as weak and irritating.
Sukuna and Mahito, while responsible for the deaths of popular characters, have still earned a dedicated fanbase. In contrast, Haruta Shigemo is jokingly known within the Jujutsu Kaisen community for having no fans at all, and many agree that his personality makes that completely understandable.
Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
