Logan Paul Gave His Daughter a Super Expensive Pokemon Card for Christmas

Logan Paul, the WWE wrestler and Pokemon card enthusiast, gave his one-year-old daughter, Esme, a very special Christmas gift: a rare Shining Magikarp card. He shared a video of the moment online, and it turns out the card is worth around $9,000, based on recent prices for Pokemon Trading Card Game cards.

Magikarp, often called the Fish Pokemon, was first introduced in the original Pokemon Red and Blue games. While it starts as a weak Water-type, Magikarp famously evolves into the much more powerful Gyarados, completely changing its look. With the release of Pokemon Gold and Silver, a special, golden-scaled version of Magikarp called Shiny Magikarp was added, quickly becoming a favorite among fans who have created artwork and other projects inspired by it. Shiny Magikarp made its trading card game debut in the Pokemon TCG’s Neo Revelations set as Shining Magikarp, a basic Pokemon with 30 HP. Released in English in September 2001, Neo Revelations was the third set based on Pokemon Gold and Silver, and Shining Magikarp, along with Shining Gyarados, were the rarest cards in the expansion.

Logan Paul Gives His One-Year-Old Daughter A Valuable Pokemon Card For Christmas

Paul recently shared a video on Instagram of a special Christmas gift for his daughter, Esme: a perfectly graded Shining Magikarp Pokémon trading card, protected in a case. He explained he chose the card because Esme had selected Magikarp as her first Pokémon. The video mentioned the card is estimated to be worth around $9,000. While some Shining Magikarp cards can be found for as little as $183.64 on sites like TCGPlayer, Paul is a well-known collector of rare Pokémon cards. He previously noted that Pokémon cards generally offer a good return on investment. He famously spent $5.3 million on an Illustrator Pikachu card in 2022 and plans to auction it off in February 2026. It’s still uncertain how much money he’ll get for the Pikachu card, or if it will reach the original $5.3 million price he paid.

The former WWE United States Champion is a big fan of Pokemon, but his attempts to collect Pokemon Trading Cards haven’t always gone as planned. In November 2025, he bid $34,700 for a Kabuto card in an eBay charity auction run by Kabuto King. However, another bidder, a Twitter user named cards.fun, won the card with a bid of $51,100. Kabuto King noted that even though he didn’t win, the champion’s bid helped raise awareness for the auction, which benefited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Pokemon TCG Keeps Going Despite Scalping Risks

It’s no surprise that Pokémon trading card game (TCG) products have become highly sought after by collectors and fans, making them a prime target for scalpers who resell them at inflated prices. This has led some stores, like Walmart+, to limit purchases or restrict early access to new sets to subscribers. GameStop took a stronger stance, warning scalpers in a November 2025 social media post that they would be banned from stores if caught using scales to determine pack values.

Pokemon trading cards are likely to stay popular and valuable through 2026, especially as the Pokemon franchise turns 30. To celebrate, Pokemon TCG might partner with McDonald’s to include special promo cards and packs in Happy Meals. If this happens, McDonald’s will likely need to implement rules to prevent people from buying large quantities of Happy Meals just to resell the cards for profit.
