7 Things to Expect From Pokémon in 2026

Pokémon remains incredibly popular worldwide, and 2026 will be a major milestone for the series as it marks the 30th anniversary of the original Japanese games.

Over the past thirty years, Pokémon has grown to include more than 1,000 different creatures players can catch in video games. Beyond the games, there are thousands of anime episodes, feature-length movies, a hugely popular trading card game, and numerous other related games and products.

Next year is a big one for Pokémon, so TopMob is previewing what the company has planned for 2026.

What to Expect From Pokémon in 2026

Pokopia Launches a New Series of Games

Pokopia, a new Pokémon game, is scheduled to come out on March 5, 2026. It will be the first Pokémon title of the year and is designed specifically for the new Nintendo Switch 2 console, though players will also be able to enjoy it on the original Switch.

Combining Pokémon with a game like Animal Crossing feels like a natural fit, and if the new title does well – which it appears poised to do – it could easily launch a whole new series of games.

Pokopia seems to take place in the Kanto region, though it might include Pokémon from different generations. Leaks suggest a post-apocalyptic setting, and this could mean players will be able to explore other regions later on.

30th Anniversary TCG Set

A special Pokémon Trading Card Game set to celebrate the 30th anniversary is almost certain, as trademarks have already been filed in Japan. This was expected, given that Pokémon released commemorative sets for their 25th anniversary in 2021 (Celebrations) and their 20th anniversary in 2016 (Generations).

It’s still unclear what Pokémon plans to do next, but reprinting older, popular cards is one possibility. There are many options they could choose from, and fans are already discussing what would be the most successful strategy for the Pokémon brand.

Regardless of how it performs, this is sure to be a very profitable release for Pokémon, especially considering the current high demand which, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

Gen 10 Releases on Nintendo Switch 2

By 2026, it will have been four years since Pokémon Scarlet and Violet came out – the longest wait between new Pokémon generations since 2010, when Black and White were released. We can almost certainly expect the next generation of Pokémon games to arrive in 2025.

The first glimpse of the new Pokémon game is likely to appear during Pokémon Day 2026, with the full game expected to launch later that year, around the same time as Legends: Z-A was released.

Okay, so it’s looking like Gen 10 is probably going to be the first big game that only comes out on the Switch 2. Honestly, it kinda feels like Nintendo’s saying all the really major new games from now on will be exclusive to the new console, leaving us original Switch owners out in the cold.

Pokémon Black & White Remakes

Everyone anticipated remakes of the Black and White Pokémon games to come out this year, but Pokémon hasn’t said anything about them recently. After the lukewarm reception to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in 2021, it’s possible Pokémon has changed its plans for remakes altogether.

Eventually, remakes of the Generation 5 Pokémon games are likely to happen. They would be a fitting final release for the current Switch, appearing on both the original Switch and its successor, the Switch 2.

While new black and white Pokémon remakes were expected around 2026, they aren’t confirmed. The recent remakes of the fourth generation games weren’t very well received, and that’s probably a good thing. It suggests the developers will take the time needed to create a remake that lives up to the quality of games like HeartGold and SoulSilver.

More Pokémon TCG Pocket Expansions

Pokémon TCG Pocket has been incredibly popular in its first year, and it’s expected to continue growing. Because of this, it’s safe to say we’ll see more expansions for the game in 2026.

With the release of the ‘B’ sets, TCG Pocket has started including Mega Evolutions, and this looks set to continue. It’s exciting to think about what future sets might hold, given the game’s nearly 30-year history offers plenty of inspiration.

The upcoming 30th anniversary set for TCG Pocket looks promising, and we can expect a lot of exciting choices when the 10th generation is released as well.

Another Pokémon Mobile Title

With popular Pokémon games like Pokémon Go, TCG Pocket, and Cafe Remix already available on mobile, it’s not surprising to see more games planned for release on phones in 2026.

Pokémon Champions is confirmed to be coming to mobile devices, and there’s also a chance we’ll see a brand new Pokémon game developed for mobile. This new game could connect to existing titles or offer a completely fresh experience.

Pokémon LEGO Sets Make a Wave

Pokémon and LEGO are teaming up at last! The first LEGO Pokémon sets will arrive in 2026, and they’re likely to be very popular – so be prepared to try and get your hands on them quickly.

LEGO and Pokémon are both incredibly popular, and fans often compete to buy the latest sets and cards. Because of this high demand, you might have a hard time finding LEGO Pokémon products when you go shopping.

Okay, as a gamer who loves collecting, I’m feeling pretty good about LEGO. They’re way better than Pokémon at keeping stuff in stock and making enough of it. So, unlike some Pokémon card releases, I don’t think we’re going to see a crazy scalper situation with this. That’s a huge relief!
