On January 1st, the Epic Games Store will be giving away two free games: Total War: Three Kingdoms and Wildgate. You’ll have seven days to claim them. This marks a return to the Epic Games Store’s regular free game offerings, which had been temporarily paused for almost a month.
As usual, Epic Games Store offered a series of daily free games throughout most of December. This meant their typical week-long free game promotions were temporarily paused. Until today, Hogwarts Legacy was the last game players could get for a full week.
Epic Games Store Launches First 7-Day Giveaway of 2026
Following the end of the free Chivalry 2 offer on January 1st, the Epic Games Store added two new free games: Wildgate and Total War: Three Kingdoms. These games are part of the ongoing holiday promotion, but unlike the previous 14 daily freebies, they’ll be available for a full week. You can claim them until next Thursday, January 8th, at 8am Pacific Time, 11am Eastern Time, or 5pm Central European Time.

A Brief Intro to Wildgate, Epic’s Latest Freebie
Wildgate is a sci-fi shooter, blending player-versus-player and player-versus-environment combat. Released in July 2025 by Moonshot Games, it’s a first-person game where players team up in three different modes. You’ll find elements of scavenging, spaceship battles, and challenging late-game areas like the Reach. Wildgate gives players a lot of freedom to choose their playstyle – whether they prefer aggressive action or stealth. As of early 2026, the game has a solid 76 average rating on OpenCritic and is considered “Very Positive” by players on Steam.
Three Kingdoms Is Epic’s 3rd Total War Free Game
Total War: Three Kingdoms draws inspiration from the classic 14th-century Chinese novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which has influenced many books, movies, and games. While staying true to the Total War series’ signature large-scale battles, this game adds new features like detailed relationship systems and a greater focus on individual heroes. Released in 2019, it was generally well-received, earning an average score of 86 on OpenCritic.
Although Three Kingdoms hadn’t been given away for free on the Epic Games Store before, other Total War games have been offered as freebies in the past. For example, Total War: Warhammer, a highly praised strategy game, was available for free to Epic Games Store users for a week in early April 2022. Similarly, A Total War Saga: Troy was available to claim on the platform back in 2020.
With the recent additions of Total War: Three Kingdoms and Wildgate, Epic Games has concluded its three-week series of mystery game reveals that began with Hogwarts Legacy. They’ve now announced the next giveaway will be Bloons TD 6, a highly-rated tower defense game created by Ninja Kiwi. This isn’t the first time Bloons TD 6 has been offered – it will be the fourth time Epic Game Store users have had the chance to get it for free.
