LEGO Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith Build is Absolutely Massive

As a longtime fan, I’m still amazed by the enduring power of Tolkien’s world. Even now, decades after I first lost myself in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, people are finding new ways to celebrate Middle-earth. I recently came across a truly incredible project: a group of friends spent eight months and nearly 100,000 LEGO bricks to build a stunning model of Minas Tirith! While LEGO has released some great Lord of the Rings sets over the years, it’s clear some fans really want to fully recreate the magic of Middle-earth themselves, brick by brick, and this build is a perfect example.

LEGO is well-known for its diverse building sets, which frequently take inspiration from popular movies, games, and franchises like Super Mario Bros., Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pokemon, and anime. So, it wasn’t surprising to see The Lord of the Rings become a LEGO theme. However, fans were amazed by a detailed model of Minas Tirith that was built without official instructions or a pre-made kit.

The Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith LEGO Build

A Reddit user named hatzequiday shared photos of an incredible LEGO version of Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings that they discovered at a local store. They learned from the builders that the massive structure is made of 99,500 LEGO pieces and took over eight months to complete. Six friends worked on it together, meeting for about four hours each week, adding up to a total of 768 hours of building time – 128 hours per person. Given how impressive Minas Tirith is described in the books and portrayed in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, this custom LEGO model is both breathtaking and intimidating.

It’s funny, considering the massive custom LEGO Minas Tirith recently built by fans, that rumors suggest LEGO might release an official, but much smaller, version in 2026 – with ‘only’ around 8,278 pieces. LEGO enthusiasts have been estimating how much the fan-built Minas Tirith would have cost to create. Knowing that LEGO sets usually cost between 10 and 13 cents per piece, people think this incredible build could have cost anywhere from $9,950 to over $12,935. But beyond the money, everyone is amazed by the sheer amount of time and effort that went into the project, comparing it to the epic journey of the Fellowship in The Lord of the Rings.

Rumors suggest a large LEGO set of Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings might be released around June 2026, and that’s sparked a lot of creativity among fans. Many are already building their own LEGO versions of this famous location. People have been eager for more expansive Lord of the Rings LEGO sets, and Minas Tirith would be a great addition to the existing Middle-earth collection. While official LEGO sets aren’t as large as some fan-made creations, hopefully LEGO will eventually create a truly massive kit to fully capture the magic of The Lord of the Rings.
