Satisfactory: How to Get and Use the Parachute

Satisfactory: How to Get and Use the Parachute

As a seasoned Satisfactory player with countless hours under my belt, I must say, the parachute is undeniably one of the game’s unsung heroes! The first time I soared across the map like a graceful mushroom-equipped squirrel, it was love at first flight.

In the game Satisfactory, players have the ability to explore and manufacture a diverse range of gear that can be equipped. For instance, one such item is the parachute, which can initially be obtained through the mycelia research line within the MAM.

In the game Satisfactory, deploying a parachute drastically reduces your descent speed and enables fast forward motion. This allows you to dodge fall damage, and with skillful maneuvering, traverse from one island or pillar to another, exploring areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. Although a jetpack is obtainable as a milestone reward, a unique physical property ensures the parachute remains useful even after acquiring it.

How to Unlock the Parachute

After gaining entry to the MAM research table, you’ll be able to advance the parachute item more quickly within the game. This item is located three levels deep within the Mycelia research branch. To achieve this, follow these steps:

  • Mycelia (5 mycelia)
  • Fabric (25 mycelia, 100 biomass)
  • Parachute (10 fabric, 50 cable)

If you’re struggling to gather enough mycelia, consider obtaining an ample supply by harvesting large mushrooms and fungi using a chainsaw. This can be done by collecting the big hollow spheres located north of the grasslands starting point, as well as the blue mushrooms found within caves.

Once you unlock the parachute research, you can craft one at the equipment workshop. You’ll need:

  • 20 fabric
  • 10 cables

How to Use (and Exploit) the Parachute

In the game ‘Satisfactory’, before you can deploy a parachute, you must first ensure it’s ready for use by placing it in your character’s inventory. You can move the parachute to your character’s back slot by dragging it there from the inventory screen, or you could simply double-click on it to have it equipped automatically.

When your parachute is prepared, either leap from a height or dive off a ledge while pressing the spacebar (default jump action). As soon as you begin to descend, the chute will automatically open. You can release the jump key at this point. To plummet rapidly once more, press the crouch button (default C). If you wish to break your fall just before touching the ground, re-press the jump key.

When your parachute is deployed, you have freedom to maneuver in various ways, and if you advance, you can even receive an added speed burst. The control over your movement is less precise compared to being on solid ground, but it’s still more manageable than attempting to alter direction while jumping.

The parachute possesses an intriguing feature, as shown in the video above. When moving at top speed and colliding with a ramp, the parachute enables you to soar upward rather than landing. In other words, this technique allows for height increase instead of constant descent, and it’s possible to employ it to access locations that are beyond the reach of a jetpack.

In the initial version 1.0 of the game, Satisfactory, this exploit seemed to have been slightly modified. Nevertheless, it remains useful across various natural and artificial terrains. For instance, it works on the four-meter foundation ramps as well as certain cliff faces that are normally too steep to ascend. This exploit isn’t the only method for reaching high places (you can construct foundation ramps anywhere on the map), but experimenting with this tool, which usually allows descent only, to see how high you can climb can be quite entertaining.
