PC Is GR Readers’ Most Popular Gaming Platform

Video games have long been a popular pastime. Whether it was choosing a game at the arcade or deciding which console to buy for home, people have always enjoyed the experience of playing games.

The gaming world is incredibly competitive right now, with major companies like Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation all trying to win players over with unique games and innovative features. PC gaming still provides the most options for personalization. But which platform do the team at Rant favor?

The votes are tallied, and PC gaming is the clear winner among Game Rant readers! It’s the most popular platform by a large margin – the biggest lead we’ve seen since the game Clair Obscur was popular back in 2025. The competition between consoles was much tighter, though!

Where do you plan on playing video games the most in 2026?

  • PC — 62% / 1,623 votes
  • PlayStation — 15% / 398 votes
  • Other — 8% / 222 votes
  • Xbox — 8% / 216 votes
  • Nintendo — 6% / 169 votes

Our readers have spoken, and it’s clear: they overwhelmingly prefer PC gaming! In a recent poll, over 60% said they plan to play games on PCs and laptops this year, easily surpassing console gaming. This isn’t too surprising – PCs offer more customization options and let players avoid most console-exclusive titles – but the strength of preference for PC is still remarkable.

In 2026, PlayStation was the most popular console, with nearly 400 gamers choosing it for their entertainment. Surprisingly, a significant number of players also used a variety of other systems, including VR headsets, older consoles, and handheld devices – which is great to see!

The unexpectedly low number of Nintendo players is a bit of a letdown. Considering Nintendo was the last to launch a new console, it’s surprising to see so few Switch and Switch 2 users. The Switch 2 had a rough beginning in 2025, so Nintendo is counting on strong game releases in 2026 to improve its performance.

Now that we’ve covered that, let’s talk about LEGO and Pokémon! LEGO recently announced a collaboration with Pokémon, and we’re curious: which set are you most excited about?
