The Elder Scrolls 6: How Likely Every Recurring NPCs Return Is

As a die-hard Elder Scrolls fan who’s spent countless hours traversing the vast landscapes of Tamriel, I eagerly anticipate the arrival of Elder Scrolls 6. While the series is renowned for its unique and compelling one-off characters, there are certain recurring figures that have become an integral part of the lore.

As a devoted gamer diving into the vast world of Elder Scrolls, I can’t help but notice a consistent challenge within Bethesda’s upcoming masterpiece, Elder Scrolls 6. It’s a conundrum that spans across the series: due to the games being set decades or even centuries apart from one another, most of the central characters in each game tend to be unique and standalone. However, throughout the Elder Scrolls saga, there have been numerous recurring characters who have endeared themselves to fans over time.

At this point, it’s more accurate to say that information on The Elder Scrolls 6 is scant rather than abundant. Bethesda has been exceptionally secretive regarding the upcoming installment of their renowned series, which has left fans guessing about potential locations, time periods, and characters. Despite main characters often staying within their respective games (with exceptions), some beloved recurring characters may reappear in the next journey through Tamriel.

1 M’aiq the Liar

There isn’t much information available about the upcoming Elder Scrolls game, but it’s almost certain that M’aiq will make an appearance. While not a main character, M’aiq is more of an easter egg and has been a recurring joke in every Elder Scrolls title since Morrowind. Encountered randomly as players explore the world, M’aiq often speaks in a humorous manner, breaking the fourth wall by commenting on the game development process. Since each game takes place over significant time gaps, each M’aiq is technically a different character, but they all share the same witty jabs about the games’ development cycles, much like Deadpool.

2 The Daedric Princes

It might be a cheat to lump 16 characters together (technically 17 if Jyggalag is factored into the equation) but the Daedric princes are too iconic for Bethesda to skip out on in the next game. The setting’s most powerful demons don’t always reach the relevancy they did in Oblivion, when Merhunes Dagon nearly destroyed the world, but between Molag Bal’s role as primary antagonist of Elder Scrolls: Online, the Shivering Isles expansion, and their many side quests in Skyrim, the Princes have become an inseparable part of Elder Scrolls lore. They also tend to offer some of the best gear in any of the Elder Scrolls games, making their inclusion all the more inevitable.

3 Shadowmere

Shadowmere, the black steed of the Dark Brotherhood, might not be considered a fully-fledged character, but he has been a cherished ally to countless adventurers since his introduction in Oblivion. In its original game, Shadowmere was the fastest mount and one of the most helpful in Skyrim due to his unique ability to resurface after death after a few days instead of being permanently killed. Because Shadowmere possesses supernatural qualities, time has no impact on his lifespan, making him an ideal choice for reappearing whenever and wherever Elder Scrolls 6 takes place.

4 Gelebor

A somewhat deep cut, Gelebor is one of the few remaining members of the Snow Elves; an offshoot of Tamriel’s Mer folk that was long thought to be extinct. Gelebor’s involvement in the Dawnguard DLC is admittedly one of the least memorable aspects of the expansion, but the lore implications of him simply existing cannot be understated. If he managed to survive, perhaps others of his kind have also been flying under the radar all these years. Given enough time, Gelebor could be instrumental in reviving the long-absent race of Snow Elves, and maybe even giving fans a new playable race.

5 Serana

In the realm of Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls series, Serana stands out as a highly admired companion. Beyond her exceptional battle skills, what truly sets her apart is the outstanding writing by Bethesda and Laura Bailey’s exceptional voice acting, making her an excellent asset to the collection. As a vampire, she could potentially reappear in any upcoming installments, regardless of the passage of time. Although Skyrim allows players to try and cure Serana of her vampirism, it’s uncertain if this is considered canon, which leaves Bethesda with ample opportunity to reintroduce one of their most cherished characters.
