A reliable source suggests that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, currently only available on PlayStation 5, might come to Xbox Series X/S as early as 2026. While Square Enix has said an Xbox version is planned, a release sooner than expected isn’t out of the question.
Released in February 2024, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth continued the story directly after Final Fantasy 7 Remake, taking the characters on a journey beyond the city of Midgar to places like Costa del Sol, Junon, and Cosmo Canyon. In February 2025, the game became available on PC with improved graphics. While the game’s story generally follows the first part of the original Final Fantasy 7 on PlayStation, Square Enix highlights the differences between the classic game and this ongoing remake series as a key feature.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Could Launch on More Systems Sooner Than Fans Think
Square Enix originally planned to release the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy on as many systems as possible, and it now seems Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth might not stay exclusive to PlayStation 5 for long. According to gaming insider NateTheHate, Rebirth could come to Xbox Series X/S around 2026, though a specific release date isn’t known. He also suggests that the game could launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. It’s important to remember that these are just rumors, so Final Fantasy fans should wait for official confirmation from Square Enix before getting too excited.
Although Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is initially only available on PlayStation 5, limiting it to one platform hindered sales until the PC version arrives in 2025. Now that Xbox Series X/S and the upcoming Switch 2 are also planned to receive the game, sales of both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth are expected to improve. This move to bring Rebirth to Xbox aligns with Square Enix’s 2024 plan to release its popular games on as many systems as possible. This change in strategy happened because sales of Final Fantasy 16, which was first a PlayStation 5 exclusive, weren’t as high as hoped. As a result, FF16 was later released on PC and Xbox in 2024 and 2025, respectively, reflecting Square Enix’s new multiplatform approach.
2026 Could Be an Exciting Time for Final Fantasy 7 Fans
While we don’t know exactly when Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will come to Xbox and Nintendo’s new Switch console, fans won’t have to wait much longer for a new Final Fantasy experience on those platforms. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is launching on Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2 on January 22nd, almost six years after it first came out on PlayStation 4. This version includes a new feature called Streamlined Progression, which essentially makes players incredibly powerful in battles. With Streamlined Progression turned on, characters’ special abilities will be constantly available, and they’ll deal maximum damage with every attack. Square Enix will also add Streamlined Progression to the PS5 and PC versions of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade as a free update after the Xbox and Switch 2 releases.
Square Enix has announced they’re getting closer to deciding on a title for the third and final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. While they haven’t shared when the game will be released or which consoles it will be available on, it remains to be seen if they’ll launch FF7 Remake Part 3 on multiple platforms simultaneously.
