Jujutsu Kaisen: Characters Who Never Reached Their Peak

As a die-hard fan of Jujutsu Kaisen who has spent countless hours poring over every detail of this magnificent manga, I must say that it’s been a rollercoaster ride witnessing the growth and development of these young sorcerers. Each one of them holds an extraordinary level of potential, yet their journeys remain incomplete due to the series’ conclusion.

This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shinjuku Showdown Arc.

The popular manga series “Jujutsu Kaisen” has wrapped up its storylines recently, giving fans closure about each character’s fate. While some characters had thrilling conclusions, many others saw less impressive endings to their stories.

In the realm of JJK, numerous characters were once prophesied as the next Gojo or possessed strength surpassing Special Grade. Yet, with the conclusion of the story, fans can now contemplate over several characters who boasted immense potential but fell short of realizing it.

8 Fumihiko Takaba

  • Cursed Technique: Comedian
  • Domain Expansion: None

In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, Fumihiko Takaba made his debut during the Culling Game. Despite being oblivious to his own abilities, it was mentioned that he possessed a unique cursed skill known as Comedian. This skill allows him to materialize anything he finds even mildly amusing in thought. It’s said to be a flawed technique, yet powerful enough to potentially match the might of Gojo Satoru.

Regrettably, Takaba didn’t quite reach those heights within the series, instead spending most of his time brainstorming jokes and comedy routines. If JJK were to resume someday, it might reveal his full potential. However, at present, his curse technique seems underutilized.

7 Nobara Kugisaki

  • Cursed Technique: Straw Doll Technique
  • Domain Expansion: None

In the realm of JJK, Nobara Kugisaki was often recognized as one of the most powerful rising sorcerers, even though she didn’t garner as much spotlight as peers like Yuji and Megumi. However, her strength was undeniable, and it’s plausible that with further progression, she could have ascended to great heights.

Unfortunately, Nobara’s character was absent throughout most of the narrative, reappearing just a few chapters before its conclusion. This made it challenging to accurately judge how powerful she had become. Despite this, it was evident to fans that Nobara still had much room for growth and hadn’t yet reached her full potential.

6 Hiromi Higuruma

Jujutsu Kaisen: Characters Who Never Reached Their Peak
  • Shikigami: Judgeman
  • Domain Expansion: Deadly Sentencing

As a devoted fan, let me share my perspective: I was thrilled when Hiromi Higuruma, the rising sorcerer, stepped into the spotlight during the Culling Game. His potential and electrifying character made him one of the most intriguing figures in the series. The epic battle against Sukuna that he engaged in Shinjuku left no doubt in fans’ minds – Higuruma possesses sorcery talent on par with Gojo himself.

Indeed, even Sukuna acknowledged his worth, and his survival after Sukuna’s devastating World Splitting Dismantle speaks volumes about his extraordinary abilities. Yet, Higuruma never fully realized his potential. This is largely due to the series not providing him with sufficient development time before its sudden conclusion. However, by the end of the series, Higuruma remained a gem yet untouched, much like how fans perceived him during the Culling Game.

5 Mai Zenin

  • Cursed Technique: Construction
  • Domain Expansion: None

It’s fascinating to see Mai Zenin on this list, as her technique was significantly transformed by Yorozu during the Culling Game. While their shared technique was initially considered weak, Yorozu’s masterful application of it made her one of the most powerful figures in the Heian era.

Mai clearly had great potential but failed to reach it. She died in an attempt to sacrifice herself for her sister so that she could destroy the entire Zenin order and reduce things to ash, which she successfully did.

4 Aoi Todo

Jujutsu Kaisen: Characters Who Never Reached Their Peak
  • Cursed Technique: Boogie Woogie
  • Domain Expansion: None

Initially depicted in the show as an exceptionally strong and promising young sorcerer destined to outshine even those of special grade, Todo nonetheless failed to truly demonstrate such formidable potential throughout the series.

As a gamer putting myself into the world of Black Clover, even when Todo reappeared during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, it felt like he couldn’t quite measure up to an authentic Special Grade Sorcerer. In the end, Sukuna was the one who handled them all. Despite the fact that Todo had significantly enhanced his techniques, I never got a sense of him truly reaching his full potential.

3 Yuta Okkotsu

  • Cursed Technique: Copy
  • Domain Expansion: Authentic Mutual Love

In the anime series “JJK,” Yuta Okkotsu is depicted as an exceptionally strong figure. At one point, Gojo predicted that he would eventually attain a power level comparable to Gojo’s own. Regrettably, the development of this potential was not shown in “JJK.

In the world of JJK, Yuta, despite possessing immense mastery over cursed energy and having Rika by his side, was significantly inferior to Gojo’s abilities at the end. The only way Yuta could approach Gojo’s prowess was by actually occupying his body, but even then, his command over it was abysmal. Considering everything, Yuta has immense potential that will continue to flourish, however, at the conclusion of JJK, he was still a vast distance away from even approximating Gojo’s abilities.

2 Yuji Itadori

Jujutsu Kaisen: Characters Who Never Reached Their Peak
  • Cursed Technique: Blood Manipulation, Shrine
  • Domain Expansion: Unnamed

As a dedicated fan, I can confidently say that I’m another aspiring sorcerer whom Gojo believes has the potential to match his power someday. Interestingly enough, it’s been hinted that my potential is similar to Sukuna’s. Needless to say, there’s still a lot of growth ahead for me, especially considering I’m quite young. With time, I hope to surpass these milestones and reach even greater heights in the world of sorcery.

Unfortunately, enthusiasts won’t have the chance to witness Yuji’s growth beyond the conclusion of JJK as he was significantly weaker compared to characters like Gojo and Sukuna at the end of the series.

1 Megumi Fushiguro

  • Cursed Technique: Ten Shadows Technique
  • Domain Expansion: Chimera Shadow Garden

Megami Fushiguro, an emerging sorcerer with notable skill, was widely acknowledged for her exceptional talent. Gojo had expressed confidence that Megumi could potentially match his power level someday. However, due to an unusual turn of events that removed him from the narrative, he never had the chance to truly realize his full potential.

To put it simply, it’s hard to believe Megumi didn’t finish his domain. His role seemed mainly to aid Sukuna in causing fear in the latter part of the series. In terms of significance, it was nearly insignificant compared to other characters.
