Nioh 3 features three large, open-world areas filled with many different bosses. Some of these bosses are essential to the main storyline, while others are optional and connected to hidden collectibles and folklore. Each area also includes a particularly difficult secret boss that presents a greater challenge than any other enemy you’ll encounter there.
These hidden bosses can be tricky to find, as the game doesn’t show their locations on the map. Even when you locate them, reaching them can be challenging. This guide details the locations of all secret bosses in Nioh 3.
All Secret Boss Locations in Nioh 3
Warring States Secret Boss

- Region: Iinoya
Players can find the Demon of Pride in Warring States after reaching the Heian era in the game. Although the boss is located in Warring States, you’ll need to unlock a specific Guardian Spirit skill first. Start by following the main path in Mount Kurama until you defeat the Great Tengu boss. Unlocking this skill will then allow you to access the Temple Ruins – Cemetery Shrine where the Demon of Pride awaits.
Leave the shrine through the main gate and walk east along the path. You’ll see platforms you can jump on to get to a bridge that leads to the Sengan Waterfall Shrine. Make sure to activate this shrine – it’s right before the boss fight! Then, head down and go north to find a Spirit Vein, which will take you to the boss arena.
The Demon of Pride primarily attacks with water, and his long-range attacks are incredibly powerful – you can be defeated in a single hit if you’re not careful. He frequently sends out water discs that are difficult to dodge, so timing a perfect dodge is recommended. The Ninja Style is particularly effective in this fight, as Ninjutsu abilities like Fire Shuriken and Shrapnel Bombs deal significant damage and can also burn the boss.
In the second part of the fight, avoid rushing in to attack if the boss has glowing blue orbs around him. These orbs will shoot towards you after he attacks. Remember, you can always postpone fighting these optional bosses if you’re not strong enough or aren’t dealing enough damage – they won’t disappear!
Defeating the boss will earn you the “Kunimatsu’s Pride” trophy/achievement.
Heian Secret Boss

- Region: Hachijo
To fight the Demon of Envy in Heian, start by going to the Rajomon: Suzaku Avenue Shrine in Hachijo. From there, head north and take the first right turn. Jump onto the wooden platform and drop down into the swampy area. Stay to the left wall and go straight ahead to find an enemy base. Once you’ve defeated the enemies, you can interact with the Anneibo Temple Shrine.
Starting at the shrine, go east and climb the stairs. Jump onto the roof to your right, then continue forward until you see a pile of wood. Kicking this wood down will create a platform you can use as a shortcut. Climb down the ladders and drop into the area where you’ll fight the boss.
Okay, so the Demon of Envy? She’s all about fire, and seriously, getting hit by her attacks almost always means you’re getting burned. A lot of her moves cover a wide area, so don’t even try to deflect with the Samurai stance – you’ll need to roll out of the way right after, and that timing is super tight. Just dodge, honestly.
The Ninja Style recovers energy quickly, so focus on dodging attacks and using your Ninjutsu to maintain distance from the boss.
Defeating the boss will earn you the “Kunimatsu’s Envy” trophy/achievement.
Bakumatsu Secret Boss

- Region: Nijo Castle
To fight the Demon of Obsession boss in Bakumatsu, you’ll need to go to Nijo Castle. Start at the Horikawa Market Shrine and head east along the path until you reach Mibu. Continue east on the main road, then turn north to find the Mibu Temple – Main Gate Shrine.
You’ll need a key to enter the Mibu Temple, though it’s not necessary for the secret boss. You can obtain this key by finishing a Myth quest for Thomas Glover.
Okay, so starting from the Main Gate Shrine, I turned around and went left. There were some stairs leading down to a little area with Shinsengumi guys hanging around. I took them out, then kept going forward until I found the Abandoned Temple Outskirts Shrine. I rested up at the shrine to save my progress, and then crossed the bridge – that’s when the boss fight started!
The Demon of Obsession is the game’s last hidden boss and attacks with a cannon. You’ll need to quickly deflect or dodge some of the cannonballs, while others are fired with the wind to arrive later. The boss also charges at you, so be sure to move to avoid getting hit.
Watch out for getting too close to the boss – his powerful tornado attacks and grabbing ability can quickly defeat you. Both fighting styles are effective, but avoid being overly aggressive, as he can use his cannon to deplete your Ki.
Defeating the boss will earn you the “Kunimatsu’s Obsession” trophy/achievement.
