This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
Sasuke Uchiha is a central character in the Naruto series. From the very start, he was portrayed as Naruto’s equal, and the author, Kishimoto, frequently emphasized Sasuke’s importance throughout the story. As one of them gained strength, so did the other, but they each developed their power in unique ways.
Throughout the Naruto series, Naruto became stronger physically and gained a deeper connection with the Nine-Tailed Fox, Kurama. Meanwhile, Sasuke’s power grew through his Uchiha clan’s unique abilities, the Sharingan. As Sasuke progressed, his Sharingan evolved, eventually unlocking the powerful Mangekyo Sharingan. He then made this ability permanent by transplanting his brother’s eyes, becoming even more formidable. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Sasuke gained the Rinnegan, further increasing his strength. His visual abilities continued to develop in Boruto, but he ultimately lost the Sharingan’s most famous power: the ability to perfectly copy other techniques.
Sasuke Uchiha Lost His Rinnegan In The Boruto Series
The Rinnegan Was Stabbed By Momoshiki Otsutsuki
Watching the Boruto series, I’ve definitely felt a bit let down by how Sasuke Uchiha has been portrayed. He’s had a few fights, sure, but he’s lost most of them. What’s even more frustrating is seeing him gradually lose his abilities, seemingly just to make the new generation look stronger. It felt like a strange creative choice, and honestly, as a fan, it was really sad to see such a powerful character diminished like that.
Stop using that power as if it’s yours, Kakashi. — Sasuke Uchiha
Sasuke suffered a huge setback when Momoshiki damaged his Rinnegan, effectively taking away a major source of his strength. Without it, Sasuke was significantly weakened and unable to effectively fight the Otsutsuki. He lost access to the powerful abilities the Rinnegan granted him, severely limiting his combat options. Beyond that, the Boruto series has further diminished Sasuke’s potential by having him hold onto other abilities that he rarely, if ever, uses in battle.
Sasuke’s Biggest Loss Was The Copying Ability Of The Sharingan
The Sharingan Isn’t Used To Copy Anymore
One of Sasuke’s biggest weaknesses in the Boruto series is the diminished power of his Sharingan. Its greatest strength was always its ability to quickly learn by copying others – it was known as the Copy Wheel Eye for a reason. While it couldn’t replicate unique inherited abilities or hidden techniques, it could instantly copy almost everything else, like movements and fighting styles. This made the Sharingan an incredibly powerful, almost unbeatable skill.
Sadly, the Boruto series has significantly diminished Sasuke’s Sharingan abilities. He no longer copies opponents’ moves or fighting styles, and doesn’t even replicate non-unique skills. This is a major drawback for Sasuke in the new series. It feels like the author intentionally weakened the Uchiha’s visual power, making it almost ineffective in combat, and they’ve succeeded in doing so.
Both Rinnegan And Sharingan Are Forgotten Powers In Boruto
The Rinnegan And Sharingan Need More Focus
Considering Sasuke lost both his Rinnegan and a significant amount of his Sharingan’s power in the Boruto series, it’s likely he won’t play a major role in future events.
Many fans are understandably upset with how Sasuke has been portrayed in the Boruto series. As a central figure in the entire Naruto story, alongside Naruto himself, Sasuke is an iconic and influential character who has resonated with both creators and viewers. It’s disheartening to see such a beloved and important character treated this way.

With Sasuke having lost both his Rinnegan and most of his Sharingan abilities, many fans are concerned about his future. However, the recent chapters of the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex story show some positive changes in how characters are being developed. This gives fans hope that when Sasuke eventually returns, he’ll regain his strength and his powers will be used effectively.
Sasuke Might Get Stronger In The Future of Boruto
Despite appearing weaker in the Boruto series, Sasuke has been training with Boruto for over a year. He even battled Code, managing to seriously injure him by costing him an eye. Considering the enemies Boruto will face are expected to be even more powerful, fans are hoping Sasuke will receive a significant power boost. Many want to see the author honor Sasuke’s character and avoid disappointing fans upon his return. As one of the central figures of the franchise alongside Naruto, Sasuke needs to be strong for Boruto to succeed as a series.
There are several ways Sasuke could become even more powerful. We’ve already seen him get physically stronger, as demonstrated in his battle with Code, and he now has an enhanced Scientific Ninja Blade. He might also unlock the Rinnegan in his second eye or find new ways to use scientific tools in fights. While not every possibility is perfect, Sasuke needs to increase his strength to protect his village.
