Playing The Sims 4 and building a family that lasts for many generations is a big commitment. One player recently experienced a frustrating glitch that erased photos documenting their Sims family history, spanning 7.5 generations. All the time and effort they put into building their family tree was seemingly lost when the photos disappeared.
The Sims 4 has been a hit for over ten years, celebrating its 12th anniversary this year. Players love creating families within the game and watching those families grow through many generations. It’s already tough to keep just one Sim alive, but managing multiple generations is a real challenge! While The Sims is one of the most beloved life simulation series, its age and popularity don’t protect it from bugs that can seriously disrupt a player’s game.
Sims 4 Player Loses 7.5 Generations Worth of Family Photos in a Matter of Seconds
Reddit user iiappie, a player of The Sims 4, experienced a frustrating glitch that erased years of their gameplay. They had meticulously documented 7.5 generations of a family, carefully displaying photos of each family member on connected bookshelves throughout their home. Unfortunately, the glitch caused all the photos to disappear, leaving only black frames. Iiappie shared a screenshot showing the empty walls, highlighting the devastating loss of their in-game family history. They expressed their disappointment, saying, “They’re all gone now. I don’t usually get upset by things like this, but yikes, this sucks.”

I was so surprised to see this bug! Apparently, a player named iiappie found that while six walls showed up in their game, a seventh one was mysteriously on the second floor of the house. It happened while they were building the eighth generation of their Sim family – can you imagine how long they’ve been playing?! Other Sims 4 players have been trying to help, with one Reddit user, Efsamo, sharing a fix they’d posted before. Some are also suggesting loading an older save file. As of now, we don’t know if iiappie has been able to get their pictures back, but building a family that lasts for generations is a huge accomplishment, so I really hope they can fix it!
Sims 4 Players Share Their Condolences and Voice Their Own Frustrations
I’ve been seeing a lot of other Sims 4 players reacting to this glitch, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking! So many people said it’s happened to them too, which is a little comforting to know I’m not alone. I’m also just amazed at how long iiappie managed to keep their family going! It’s not just family photos either – apparently paintings can do it too. One person, Rumlowbones, even said they stopped playing because all their Sim’s portraits of their loved ones just turned white! It’s super frustrating because even with all the updates to The Sims 4, this bug just keeps happening and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be fixed anytime soon.
It doesn’t seem like the iiappie photo library will be recovered. While commenters have offered some helpful suggestions, it’s still uncertain if they’ll work. Deleting Sims in The Sims 4 is one thing, but losing seven and a half generations of family history—especially after all the effort put into documenting it—must be really painful.
