How to Evolve Haunter in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

If you want a powerful Pokémon in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, Gengar is an excellent choice. However, you can’t find Gengar in the wild – you have to evolve Haunter to get one. It’s not as simple as just leveling up, which can be confusing for new players trying to complete their Pokédex. This guide will explain how to obtain and evolve Gastly, and then how to evolve Haunter in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.

How to Get and Evolve Gastly in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

You can find Gastly most easily in Lavender Town’s Pokémon Tower, located in the top right corner of the town. To get there, you’ll first need to defeat Misty in Cerulean City and cross Nugget Bridge. You’ll also need to obtain the Cut HM from the S.S. Anne in Vermilion City before you can reach Lavender Town.

Okay, so after leaving Cerulean City, you’ll want to head east. You’ll go through Route 9 and then Route 10 before you can get to Rock Tunnel. Oh, and a heads-up: if you haven’t learned the Flash move yet, you’ll need to catch 10 Pokémon and then talk to Professor Oak’s aide back on Route 2 to get it.

Once you exit Rock Tunnel, you’ll find yourself on the southern part of Route 10. Keep going south, and you’ll reach Lavender Town.

Okay, so if you want to get into the Pokémon Tower, you’ve gotta grab the Silph Scope first. You get that from the Rocket Hideout in Celadon City – it’s west of Lavender Town. It’s a bit hidden, you’ll find it behind one of the posters in the Celadon Game Corner. Gotta search carefully!

You can find Gastly on floors three through seven of the Pokemon Tower, where it appears 90% of the time.

To evolve Gastly into Haunter, you need to train it to level 25. You can usually find Gastly around levels 13 to 19.

Haunter can be found in the Pokemon Tower, appearing on the same floors as Gastly. However, they’re much rarer, showing up only 1-6% of the time on floors 3 through 6. Your chances improve slightly on floor 7, where they appear about 15% of the time.

How to Evolve Haunter into Gengar in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

To evolve Haunter into Gengar, you need to trade it with another player. You can do this at the Trade Center, located on the second floor of any Pokémon Center. Just head upstairs and select the Trade Center option to swap Pokémon with a friend.

If you’re playing Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on the Nintendo Switch, evolving Graveler might work a little differently because trading isn’t always available. We’ll update this guide as soon as we’ve tested how it works on Switch.

To evolve your Haunter into a Gengar, you need to trade it with a friend. Once the trade is finished, your Haunter will evolve. Then, simply trade Pokémon back with your friend to complete the process and have your Gengar! This same trading method also works for evolving Graveler into Golem, so you might want to do both at once.
