Friends is a beloved show enjoyed by people all over the world because it’s funny and lighthearted, but also genuinely touching and sometimes sad. The characters consistently overcome challenges, frequently using humor to cope – a quality especially seen in Chandler.
Each character on Friends has a completely different and funny personality. Joey is silly and playful, Phoebe is wonderfully quirky, Rachel is naturally amusing, Monica is anxious and tightly wound, and Ross is overly precise, often making himself unintentionally funny. Chandler, meanwhile, is a master of sarcasm. These unique personalities blended together to make Friends a hilarious show for ten seasons, with many episodes being truly exceptional.
10. “The One With the Prom Video”
Season 2, Episode 14
Okay, so in Friends Season 2, Episode 14, Ross really tries to make things right. He’d messed up big time by making this comparison list of Julie and Rachel – seriously, not a good look. But when Rachel finds it, she totally lets him have it! She’s furious and basically tells him there’s no way they’re getting back together. It’s a pivotal moment where you see Ross trying to redeem himself, and it almost works… almost.
Ross desperately tries to win Rachel back, and a nostalgic old video ultimately does the trick. Rachel realizes Ross went all out to take her to prom—dressing up and waiting for her—but was crushed when her original date, Chip, arrived. Despite the heavy emotions, the episode is still full of funny moments from everyone in the group.
9. “The One With the Dozen Lasagnas”
Season 1, Episode 12
Monica ends up with twelve lasagnas intended for her vegetarian aunt, and she shares one with some friends. At the same time, Rachel’s boyfriend, Paolo, flirts with Phoebe, causing them to break up, while Ross is thrilled about becoming a dad.
As a big fan of Friends, I always loved Season 1, Episode 12. It’s amazing how much comedy they get out of such simple stuff – like Chandler and Joey debating whether to spend their money on a foosball table or a proper dining table! And it’s hilarious watching Monica totally dominate the guys at their own game, right in their apartment. It just proves you don’t need a huge plot to make a really funny episode.
8. “The One With the Jellyfish”
Season 4, Episode 1
The fourth season of Friends kicks off with a funny episode that revolves around Rachel’s lengthy letter, Phoebe connecting with her birth mother, and the strange story of how Monica got stung by a jellyfish. The first episode of Season 4 also playfully hints at a possible relationship between Monica and Chandler, initially just for comedic effect.
Joey, Chandler, and Monica find themselves in an awkward situation when Monica reveals she was stung by something at the beach and, to make matters worse, someone peed on her. The episode reaches a hilarious high point when Chandler confesses he was the one who did it, hoping to relieve the pain. Meanwhile, Ross and Rachel revisit their infamous “break” and ultimately decide to end their relationship for good.
7. “The One With Chandler in a Box”
Season 4, Episode 8
This episode focuses on Chandler and features a big emotional moment. After Chandler kisses Joey’s girlfriend, Kathy, their friendship is seriously tested. Joey is hurt and furious, ending his friendship with Chandler and threatening to move out of their apartment.
While all this is happening, Monica invites Richard’s son, Timothy, to Thanksgiving, which her friends don’t think is a good idea. Later, Chandler tries a silly tactic – getting inside a box – to make up with Joey. This leads to some funny moments and a heartwarming resolution.
6. “The One With the Football”
Season 3, Episode 9
This Thanksgiving episode, from Season 3, is full of hilarious physical comedy and perfectly shows how wild the group can be. Monica and Ross explain to their friends that their mom stopped them from playing football years ago, after Monica accidentally broke Ross’s nose during a very competitive game for the Geller Cup when they were kids.
“The One with the Football” is a really fun episode to watch again and again. The friends go to a park where Monica and Ross can’t even take a break from their competitive sibling rivalry. At the same time, Chandler and Joey both try to impress a woman from Holland named Margha, and we see the Geller Cup – which is surprisingly just a troll doll glued to a piece of wood!
5. “The One Where Everybody Finds Out”
Season 5, Episode 14
In Friends Season 5, Episode 14, the show really hits its stride emotionally, showing the blossoming romance between Monica and Chandler with plenty of laughs. The episode also wraps up the storyline with the ‘ugly naked guy,’ as Ross unexpectedly becomes friends with him in order to try and get his apartment.
Phoebe and Ross accidentally find out that Monica and Chandler are dating, which causes a lot of excitement and chaos. Eventually, Ross manages to get the apartment, and Phoebe skillfully tricks Chandler into admitting his feelings for Monica.
4. “The One With the Routine”
Season 6, Episode 10
The episode starts with the friends decorating Monica’s Christmas tree, but it really takes off when Ross and Monica unexpectedly perform a dance routine during the filming of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Beyond this hilarious dance, Chandler, Phoebe, and Rachel spend Monica’s time away trying to find the Christmas gifts she’s hidden.
While Monica and Ross clumsily try to board a train, Joey desperately tries to keep dancing with his roommate, Janine, leading to several funny scenes. The awkward dance between Ross and Monica is still considered one of the show’s funniest and most memorable moments.
3. “The One Where Ross Got High”
Season 6, Episode 9
The Thanksgiving episode where Ross admits to smoking pot in college, often called “The One Where Ross Got High,” is considered one of the strongest in the series, thanks to its clever writing and quick-witted conversations. The episode brilliantly uses Ross and Monica’s parents, Jack and Judy, to highlight the complicated relationships within the friend group. The tension rises when Ross reveals to Monica that their parents’ disapproval of Chandler is actually because Ross blamed him for smoking marijuana back in college.
Monica’s Thanksgiving dinner is thrown into chaos as Ross and Joey try to avoid it, Phoebe acts unusually strange, and Rachel accidentally ruins a dessert. Meanwhile, Monica is secretly trying to hide her relationship with Chandler from her parents. Everything comes to a head when Judy, Monica’s mother, delivers a brutally honest critique of everyone’s behavior.
2. “The One With the Rumor”
Season 8, Episode 9
The ninth episode of Season 8 takes place during Thanksgiving and includes a fantastic guest appearance by Brad Pitt. Though a major star, he doesn’t steal the show from the six friends – he actually helps each of them have their moment to shine.
Brad Pitt guest stars as Will Colbert, a high school friend of Monica and Rachel’s who Rachel used to tease. Now doing much better, Will still holds a grudge against her and reveals a funny secret: he and Ross started a “I Hate Rachel Green Club” back in high school. Elsewhere in the episode, Joey makes a huge bet that he can eat a whole turkey, and all the craziness allows Monica to naturally take charge and look after everyone.
1. “The One With the Embryos”
Season 4, Episode 12
In Friends Season 4, Episode 12, a fun apartment quiz drives the entire plot. Chandler and Joey compete against Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe, and Ross acts as the host. Monica, sure of her victory, jokingly bets the apartment on the outcome – a quiz to see who knows each other best.
Phoebe has a procedure to implant an embryo, and Frank Jr. and Alice are there to support her – this storyline runs alongside the main plot. Meanwhile, Monica and Rachel temporarily lose their apartment and have to stay with Chandler and Joey before managing to get it back.
