Star Wars is a massive and enduring force in popular culture. Created by George Lucas nearly 50 years ago, it continues to thrive with popular shows like The Mandalorian and Andor, and new films on the horizon, including a Ryan Gosling-led Star Wars movie. The series appeals to fans of all ages and has found a strong presence in the world of video games.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve always thought some of the coolest stories have come from their video games, and things are looking amazing right now! The 2025 Game Awards totally blew me away – we got news about both Fate of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Galactic Racer! Fate of the Old Republic was awesome on its own, but Galactic Racer is something else – a brand new Star Wars racing game! It’s a style of gameplay we haven’t seen a ton of in the Star Wars universe. I even got a sneak peek at gameplay footage at the recent Sony State of Play, and it looks incredible! It’s already making 2026 feel like a great year for Star Wars games. But honestly, there’s one game I’m really hoping shows up sometime in 2026 too.
Star Wars Jedi 3 Stepping Out of the Shadows Would Make 2026 a Huge Year For Star Wars Fans
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – 2019
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – 2023
It took four years for Survivor to come out after Fallen Order. If Respawn Entertainment continues with this pattern, we can expect Star Wars Jedi 3 around 2027. However, making games is getting harder, which could mean Jedi 3 takes longer to develop. Despite these challenges, it’s still possible the game will maintain the same four-year release schedule.

If that’s true, announcing the game in 2026 seems like a good plan. With events like Summer Game Fest happening a few months later, Respawn Entertainment would have a great opportunity to reveal the third Star Wars game that many fans are eager to see.
Cal Kestis’ Internal Struggle is Teasing a Complex and Compelling Third Chapter
Playing through Survivor, it was super obvious Cal was battling with the pull of the Dark Side. By the end, he’s at a real turning point with his morals, and honestly, a lot of us are expecting to see him fall in Star Wars Jedi 3. There’s tons of fan theories about how Cal might turn, but it’s all just guessing right now. We don’t know if Respawn has anything planned for a reveal this year. But honestly, even if the game is still a ways off, a teaser trailer just confirming it’s in development would get everyone hyped!
Star Wars Jedi 3 is Simply the Tip of the Star Wars Iceberg
A new Star Wars Jedi game announcement would be a major event for fans. However, several other projects currently in development are also generating a lot of excitement. The surprise reveal of Fate of the Old Republic has many Star Wars enthusiasts hopeful, and it might signal that we’ll soon get a release date or trailer for the highly anticipated KOTOR remake, which has been in development for a long time. Seeing something new from Saber Interactive regarding KOTOR would be fantastic. Beyond that, several other intriguing Star Wars projects seem poised to be revealed later this year.
Although two separate teams are developing the games, Casey Hudson, who originally directed Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), is leading the development of Fate of the Old Republic.
Other Star Wars Games That Are Currently in Development
- Star Wars: Zero Company
- Star Wars Eclipse
- Untitled Amy Hennig Star Wars game
The strategy game Star Wars: Zero Company is expected to be released this year, though a specific date hasn’t been announced yet. The game takes place during the Clone Wars and is being primarily developed by Bit Reactor, with assistance from Respawn Entertainment. Notably, Zero Company is officially part of the Star Wars story, including the events of Star Wars Jedi, so fans will be eager to see how the two connect.
Star Wars Eclipse is a very ambitious new Star Wars game currently in development. It’s being created by Quantic Dream, the studio known for narrative-driven games like Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain. This project represents a shift for the developer, as it’s a large, established franchise. The game is set in the High Republic era and promises a complex story where player choices matter – a hallmark of Quantic Dream’s games. However, reports suggest it will feature more action than their previous titles. While a release date isn’t confirmed, some believe it could arrive in 2027 or 2028. If it’s released in 2027, we might finally get some significant news about the game this year, which would be the first major update since its initial reveal at the 2021 Game Awards.
Finally, there’s the upcoming Star Wars game being developed by Amy Hennig and Skydance New Media. Hennig is famous for creating the Uncharted series, and fans are excited about the possibility of that kind of action-adventure gameplay in the Star Wars universe. She previously worked on a Star Wars game for EA that was unfortunately canceled. While we might not hear about Star Wars Jedi 3 or an update on the KOTOR remake in 2026, there are still plenty of potential surprises coming. Hopefully, Star Wars Jedi 3 will be the next game revealed. It’s fantastic to have so many Star Wars games in development, but continuing the compelling story from the Jedi series would be particularly exciting.
