
The game features a really interesting world full of surprises. One of the most unique finds is Meek, an old mimic creature who can become a companion. He’s pretty well hidden though, so players who don’t focus on intelligence-based Cleric builds might miss him.
This role-playing game is full of hidden secrets, and Meek is one of the coolest. They’re a charming companion who can also lend a hand when you need it. If you’re finding the battles tough, adding Meek to your party might give you an edge.
Meek can be tricky to locate, but this guide will show you exactly where to find them and how to add them to your party. Once you do, you’ll have a quirky companion who loves to offer advice – a classic addition to any Dungeons & Dragons adventure!
How to Find Meek

Finding Meek won’t be easy, so be prepared to search for a while. You’ll need to get into the City Below first, but that shouldn’t be difficult if you complete a few quests by talking to people.
Once you’ve reached the City Below, go to the room with the Pillar of Jor and then continue south into the Roots. That’s where your search for the tiny mimic will begin.
Finding the Passcode
South of Moongrove, near the bugbear in the Roots, you’ll find what look like statues. These aren’t actually statues, though – they’re people who were turned to stone by Basilisk venom. You can interact with a few of them, and for this particular puzzle, you need to interact with the statue of the wizard.
If you’re unable to interact with the statue or obtain the book, try increasing your Intelligence stat using items until it reaches 12 or higher.
After you start talking to the statue, keep the conversation going until you learn the passcode. Knowing the passcode won’t tell you where to find the door, so you’ll still need to explore to locate it.
If you’ve focused on physical strength, you can also force the door open instead of trying to find a clever solution.
Finding and Opening the Door
The door itself can be tricky to find, as there are only two routes to take. You can reach it either through the Beware Monsters tunnel in the Roots, or from the north side of the City Below. Each route has its advantages and disadvantages, but both will bring you to the sewers – that’s where you need to go.
If you enter the City Below from the north, you’ll find a hallway with burn marks and skeletons. Be careful – it’s filled with traps that could be deadly, so it’s best to save your game first. After you get through it, turn left, and you’ll find the entrance to the sewers.
Okay, so I’ve heard the southern tunnel in the Roots is actually pretty important for the main story, so you’re going to want to check it out eventually. You’ll follow it until you get to a split in the path, and get into a fight with this creature called a Roper – it’s gonna be a tough one, and you’ll likely have to hit it a lot! Once you beat it, take the right tunnel and you’ll end up in the sewers.
Starting from the sewer entrance, head south through the tunnel. You’ll soon find a door labeled “Door of Mystery.” This is where things get tricky. You can either enter the passcode or force the door open. It’s probably best to use the passcode unless you’re confident in your strength.
Making Meek Your Friend
Okay, so I finally got into the hidden room, and first thing I did was look around for treasure. There was this sign though, it said ‘Not a Mimic,’ and honestly, I thought it was about the chest right under it! Turns out, the sign itself was the mimic! I totally didn’t see that coming.
You have a couple of options here. You can try talking about the sign, which might make it easier to understand, or you can roll the dice to see if anything strange happens. No matter what, don’t touch the sign – try throwing a pebble at it instead. Doing so will wake up Meek, and you’ll start a conversation with a very talkative mimic.
It’s a good idea to bring some Shards of Jor with you, so you can try the Intelligence check again if you fail. If you don’t have any, you can always return after a quick rest.
Try to ask Meek as many questions as possible – this will make the Charisma check much easier. While the check isn’t terribly difficult on its own, it’s best not to rely on luck. You can actually reduce the difficulty to a DC of four before you even attempt the check.

If the check is successful, Meek will join your party as a companion and be stored in your inventory. You can choose to have them actively accompany you at any time, and you’ll only benefit from their abilities and dialogue while they’re equipped.

Meek isn’t the only treasure you can find. If you discover the secret chamber and search it, you might also get these other items, in addition to Meek.
