Star Wars Jedi Series Ending Accommodates a Possible Upcoming Adaptation

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated through the vastness of galaxies far, far away and witnessed the rise and fall of Jedi, I can confidently say that the future of Star Wars is looking brighter than ever. With the announcement of a new movie trilogy, it seems that Rey will once again grace our screens, potentially leading a new generation of Jedi.

The picture of what’s coming next in the Star Wars universe is getting clearer, as it was just revealed that a new trilogy of movies is being developed. While we know that other Star Wars projects are on the way, like the Mandalorian and Grogu movie, season two of Andor: A Star Wars Story, and the final chapter of Star Wars Jedi, it’s uncertain what the future of Star Wars video games holds. Aside from Respawn’s swan song with Star Wars Jedi, there isn’t much information about upcoming Star Wars games. Star Wars Eclipse seems to be a few years away at best, and there hasn’t been any news regarding the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. So, the only tangible Star Wars game on the horizon is the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Survivor’s sequel in future games.

Star Wars Needs a Fresh Trilogy of Ideas for Its Games

As a devoted Star Wars enthusiast, I can’t help but notice that while the sequel trilogy has made a significant impact in games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 and its single-player campaign, it hasn’t exactly paved the way for many engaging spin-offs. Intriguingly, series like Star Wars Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws, Star Wars Eclipse, and the iconic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic all seem to steer clear from the present-day timeline, implying that this era might be best left untouched, or at least that’s the vibe I get.

Survivor might not have been included if Kylo Ren’s hilt wasn’t so well-known. Additionally, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga includes the sequel trilogy as it adapts all nine movies into a licensed game. Lastly, it seems like a missed opportunity not to have a new Star Wars game released during the time between episodes VII, VIII, and IX of the Skywalker Saga, and hopefully, future trilogy movies won’t overlook this.

Additionally, it’s plausible that the “Star Wars Jedi” series has cornered a specific portion of games based on the Jedi theme. When this franchise eventually ends, it might pave the way for an abundance of tales and game interpretations in the future, given its vast potential.

Star Wars Trilogies are a Shorthand for Narrative Experiences and Events

One captivating aspect of the Star Wars Jedi or Star Wars Outlaws series lies in the fact that players can delve into the story without having to understand the current state of the galaxy if they’re already acquainted with the lore and context of various epochs or trilogies. The Star Wars Jedi stories set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope portray the Jedi as refugees and the Galactic Empire as a powerful, oppressive force. On the other hand, the Star Wars Outlaws tales, situated between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, depict criminal gangs wreaking havoc across the galaxy while the rebellion is close to reaching its peak.

It’s currently unknown what may occur during Star Wars’ upcoming trilogy, but having Star Wars’ next Soulslike game be an adaptation of a story led by Rey could be a phenomenal way to honor her as a protagonist. Indeed, the Soulslike subgenre has treated Star Wars exceedingly well. Whatever shape Star Wars’ Jedi tales take in the future, there will hopefully be more where Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor came from, even if Cal Kestis, BD-1, and the Stinger Mantis crew are shelved.
