Windrose: Farming and Seeds Guide

Windrose is a survival game where gathering and managing resources is key. You’ll collect these resources to participate in the game’s economy, trading them for money. This money then lets you purchase blueprints to craft new items.

You’ll need to collect resources not just to stay alive, but also to improve your situation. Early on, you’ll focus on gathering wood and stone for building. Later, you’ll also need to collect resources for farming, which will provide you with a steady food supply and help you maintain your health.

Okay, so I’m going to walk you through everything you need to know to get started with farming in Windrose. We’ll cover everything from how to actually get seeds to building up a really big, productive farm. It’s gonna be awesome!

Creating a Seedbed

Windrose features two main types of plants: those grown directly in the ground and those grown in seedbeds. Ground plants must be planted in the ground, while seedbed plants require a seedbed to grow.

You can start planting a few seeds right away, but most will need a seedbed first. You’ll only be able to build a seedbed after you’ve advanced the story and defeated Thomas Richards.

After completing that step, head to an island that has a hilly area. Look for an Ancient Farm – it will show up on your map as a wheat field.

You can find Fertile Soil near Ancient Farms, and you’ll need it to make seedbeds. Once you have enough, you can craft seedbed sections – it takes five Fertile Soil to make just one section.

Now that you know how to prepare a seedbed, you can create one by opening the build menu, choosing the farming section, and then selecting ‘seedbed’. Remember to place seedbeds directly on the ground.

All Seed Types

Windrose is home to many different plants, and each one serves a purpose. Some provide food, while others are used to make clothing or ingredients for potions and other mixtures.

Plant Seed Type Use Biome
Cayenne Peppers Seedbed Food, Alchemy Coastal
Sweet Potato Seedbed Food Coastal
Aloe Seedbed Alchemy Foothills
Tomato Seedbed Food Foothills
Corn Seedbed Food, Cornmeal Ancient Farms, Foothills
Flax Seedbed Fabric crafting Foothills
Banana Ground Food Coastal
Lime Ground Food, Alchemy Foothills
Cocoplum Ground Food Cursed Swamp
Leek Seedbed Food Farm, Cursed Swamp

Discovering certain plants opens up new possibilities in the game. As an example, if you find corn, you’ll unlock the Millstone, which is needed to craft gunpowder.

You can get seeds by finding the plant growing in the wild. When you collect the plant, there’s a chance it will drop seeds that you can use on your farm. Just so you know, you can’t buy seeds or plants from any shops in Windrose.

Harvesting Your Plants

Now that you’ve learned the fundamentals, you can start building your farm. Once your seedbed is ready, simply use the build menu to plant your seeds.

Next, switch to the farming section, choose the seeds you want to plant, and then plant them – it’s similar to how you build something. After planting, you’ll see a small plant or seed growing where you put it.

All the plants in Windrose grow at roughly the same rate, taking about 70 minutes to fully mature and be ready for harvesting.

You’re more likely to get extra seeds when you harvest a plant you’ve grown yourself, letting you plant more later.

You can also hire a helper to assist with farming. This farming contractor costs 20 silver coins from the vendor in Tortuga. They’ll harvest up to 50 crops for you, and as a thank you, they’ll give you extra seeds. After the initial 50 crops, you’ll need to pay them more to continue helping on your farm.

Best Plants to Harvest

Every plant in Windrose serves a purpose, but some are more valuable for your farm than others. You’ll always want to grow flax, as it’s essential for making fabric.

Fabric is a key ingredient in many crafting recipes, especially when building ships. It’s also a good idea to collect Aloe, as it’s used to make Elixirs of Concentration. These elixirs boost your critical damage by 30%.

Increasing your critical damage is particularly helpful when fighting bosses, letting you defeat them more quickly. Don’t forget that cayenne peppers are a fantastic ingredient to use as well.

These peppers aren’t just for cooking – they’re also an ingredient in Gunroom Grog, a drink that makes you reload your weapons 15% faster. It’s a great benefit for players who prefer gun-based combat.
