The next update for Warframe will finally add new content for Railjack, a spacecraft combat mode that hasn’t received much attention since it was first introduced in 2019 with the Empyrean update. While developer Digital Extremes has included Railjack in some quests and gameplay features, it’s largely been overlooked and hasn’t been properly updated until now.
Even though it was meant to be a big addition, the Railjack system in Warframe has proven to be quite divisive among players. A common complaint is that new features, like Railjack, often feel separate from the main game. Railjack is a good example of this, as it doesn’t integrate well with the rest of Warframe. Getting started with Railjack can be difficult, and it really requires players to team up and coordinate, which can be frustrating when you’re first learning. While it’s possible to play alone with an AI crew, you’ll need to put in a significant amount of time and effort before it becomes enjoyable.
Warframe’s Next Update Adds Brand New Railjack Content
In Devstream 195, Digital Extremes announced that the next major update for Warframe, called Jade Shadows: Constellation, will feature new missions for Railjack that continue its story. This update is scheduled for release in June 2026, picking up after the events of the Jade Shadows quest from two years earlier. Once players complete the quest, they’ll gain access to a new area, Uranus Proxima, and Pontis Tower, a dedicated space station for launching Railjack missions.
Rebecca Ford, creative director for Jade Shadows: Constellation, has revealed some details about the upcoming storyline. Players will choose a name – Sirius or Orion – for Stalker’s new baby. The unchosen name, however, will belong to a character facing a difficult future. This character will travel to the past with guidance from mentors, seeking to find their father and prevent a disastrous fate. TopMob has previously spoken with Rebecca Ford about Stalker’s importance to the overall story, and more information about what happens next is expected soon.
Each update to the game Warframe has been revealing more about the origins of Warframes through new Protoframes – figures that eventually become those powerful characters. The latest update, Jade Shadows: Constellation, introduces two of these Protoframes, each linked to one of Stalker’s sons. Ryoku is aligned with Sirius, and Venda guides Orion. During a recent livestream, the developers clarified that while these Protoframes won’t be romance options or use the typical Kim system, players will be able to recruit them to their Railjack crew by building trust through gameplay.
Railjack fans will be happy to see new missions and crew members added to the game. However, the update doesn’t address the fundamental issues with how Railjack plays. Without significant improvements to its core mechanics or new things to earn, it’s unlikely to draw many new players into the Railjack system. Similar to how players who avoid the Duviri Paradox don’t bother with the Oraxia crafting system in Warframe, players who aren’t already invested in Railjack may choose to skip this update entirely.
