LEGO has officially announced a new set modeled after the Sega Genesis console. It’s the second LEGO set inspired by Sega’s classic gaming system and is expected to be released in June 2026.
Since 2020, LEGO has been creating detailed sets based on classic video game consoles. It started with a large Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) set, complete with a Super Mario Bros. game cartridge and a vintage TV that actually lets you ‘play’ a level by turning a side crank. LEGO has since expanded this line with popular sets like the Game Boy and a replica of the Atari 2600.
LEGO Sega Genesis Set Announced with a June 2026 Release Date
LEGO is continuing its series of buildable consoles with a new model based on the classic Sega Genesis, first released in 1989. Set number 40926 will be available starting June 1, 2026, for $39.99. You’ll be able to purchase it from LEGO’s website and other authorized retailers. LEGO hasn’t announced whether customers can pre-order the set.

This new model is made of 479 pieces and recreates the classic Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive, depending on the region) console with its iconic top-loading design. It comes with two controllers you can take off and a game cartridge you can remove. Builders can use included stickers to make the model look like either the North American Sega Genesis or the version sold in other parts of the world. A hidden mosaic featuring Sonic the Hedgehog is revealed when you lift the cartridge slot cover.
LEGO recently revealed a new set inspired by the Sega Genesis, making it the second time they’ve created a product based on the classic console. Their first attempt was a smaller, 260-piece Sonic the Hedgehog Sega Genesis Controller (set 40769) which was available for a limited time in September 2025 as a free gift with purchases over $130. Like many promotional items, it sold out quickly within a month. This new set, 40926 Sega Genesis Console, is expected to be bigger and much easier to purchase than the original limited-edition model.
LEGO fans can expect more than just the Genesis set based on Sega properties in summer 2026. Two Sonic the Hedgehog sets are planned for release in August 2026, including a $29.99 model of Tails’s Tornado-1 plane. While details are still limited, another Sonic set is rumored to cost $49.99. In addition, LEGO is reportedly adding to its collection of retro consoles with the first PlayStation 1 set, numbered 72306, expected in December 2026. This PS1 replica is said to have 1,911 pieces and will retail for $159.99.
