People with an Xbox Game Pass subscription can now download Forza Horizon 6 before it officially releases. The game is available for preload surprisingly early, likely because it’s one of the biggest Xbox Game Pass games yet in terms of how much storage space it requires.
As of late 2025, the Forza Horizon series has sold around 40 million copies, making it one of the most successful racing game franchises ever. That means the sixth main game in the series is easily the most important game Xbox plans to release in May 2026.
Forza Horizon 6 Preload Goes Live 18 Days Early
Pre-downloads for Forza Horizon 6 began on May 1st, letting players on both PC and consoles download the game files ahead of its release. The 18-day preload period is fairly typical for a game of this size. The early start is likely due to the game’s massive file size – it requires 156 GB of storage on PC and 144 GB on Xbox Series X/S. Currently, the PC version appears to have the same storage requirement regardless of whether you purchase it on Steam or the Microsoft Store.
Players with Xbox Game Pass can download Forza Horizon 6 before it officially launches, just like those who pre-ordered the game. Initially, the game will only be available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Microsoft has promised to add new first-party games to the higher Xbox Game Pass Premium tier within a year of release, meaning Forza Horizon 6 should be available on Premium between November 2026 and May 2027. Because of this, players with the Premium tier can’t download the game ahead of time.
