This week has been huge for strategy game lovers! The classic Heroes of Might & Magic is back with a new edition, we’ve learned exciting details about the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 40K, Modern Naval Warfare has a release date, and Bolt Action is giving us a sneak peek at how it works with a new developer update. Let’s dive in!
Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Out Now

The highly anticipated strategy game, Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, is finally here! Developed by Unfrozen Studios and published by Hooded Horse, the game has quickly become a hit, selling over 250,000 copies in its first day and receiving a ‘Very Positive’ rating (92%) on Steam. Players are loving its return to the classic Heroes of Might & Magic 3 style, its charming fantasy atmosphere, and how much replay value it offers. In my review, I noted that this new installment demonstrates that time-tested formulas can still resonate with gamers if they’re updated and modernized. 2026 is proving to be a fantastic year for strategy game fans.
Modern Naval Warfare Releases May 13th

Matrix Games and Wave Ops have announced that their new naval warfare simulation, Modern Naval Warfare, will be released on May 18th. The game realistically simulates the experience of commanding a Virginia-Class nuclear submarine and is aiming to be the defining modern submarine game, much like the classic Silent Hunter series. It features incredibly realistic sound modeling – in fact, sound is your primary way of ‘seeing’ in the game. Players will need to fully immerse themselves and pay close attention to master this detailed simulation, so it’s best to set aside plenty of time and get comfortable!
Total War: Warhammer 40K New Details
Creative Assembly’s recent livestream for Total War: Warhammer 40K was really impressive and showed a lot of promise. The planets in the game look huge and will feature diverse environments and civilizations – for example, a temperate planet could be home to an agricultural society. These details will directly affect how battles play out on the strategy maps. Combat is set to take place on much larger maps than previous Total War games, with new features like cover and destructible environments. While there’s no release date yet, Total War: Warhammer 40K is shaping up to be one of the most exciting games in the franchise and a potential game-changer for the strategy genre.
Bolt Action Dev Diary 4

Slitherine and Warlord Games have shared a new update on the development of the digital version of Bolt Action. This fourth developer diary focuses on how the game handles suppression, squad morale, and artillery strikes. The ‘Pin’ system, which represents the psychological impact of enemy fire, will be central to gameplay – even hits that don’t wound units will affect their performance. Unlike some games, vehicles will also be susceptible to this suppression. Morale checks and indirect fire will function similarly to the tabletop game. The developers are clearly committed to faithfully recreating the tabletop experience in a digital format, addressing a concern raised by the community when the game was first announced.
