Solo Leveling’s Next Anime Season Will Unevil One Of Anime’s Most Iconic Transformations

Over the past two years, Solo Leveling has become incredibly popular, largely thanks to Studio A1 Pictures’ fantastic adaptation of Chugong’s original 2016 web novel. The animation team has done a phenomenal job bringing the story of Sung Jinwoo to life. So far, the series has released 25 high-quality episodes across two seasons.

Solo Leveling is an action-packed story focused on exciting battles, with each episode delivering a high-quality fight. Although the overall plot isn’t overly complex, the incredible action sequences make it a compelling watch. The upcoming anime season is expected to significantly boost the series’ popularity by showcasing a major power-up for the main character, Sung Jinwoo, in the form of the Black Heart, as they begin the Double Dungeon arc.

Solo Leveling Season 3 Will Officially Introduce Sung Jinwoo’s Black Heart Transformation In The Double Dungeon Arc

Season 2 of Solo Leveling ended with the Jeju Island story arc. Season 3 will begin with smaller story segments – the Recruitment Arc and the Ahjin Guild Arc – before launching into the Double Dungeon Arc. This new arc will feature Sung Jinwoo returning to fight at his strongest level.

During the later stages of the Double Dungeon Arc in Solo Leveling, a new power-up will dramatically change the balance of strength within the story. After meeting Ashborn, Jinwoo gains the Black Heart, which significantly boosts his abilities. This power-up essentially transforms him into the True Shadow Monarch – a transformation fans have been anticipating.

Assessing The Power Of Jinwoo’s Black Heart

The Black Heart originally belonged to Ashborn, the True Shadow Monarch, a character who will appear in Season 3 of Solo Leveling, available on Crunchyroll. Eventually, the protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, gains this power.

I represent everything you’ve overcome – the hardships you’ve endured, the battles you’ve fought, and the price you’ve paid. I am death, but also the peace that follows, and the fear that precedes it. — Ashborn, Solo Leveling Chapter 161

I witnessed something incredible when Sung Jinwoo obtained the Black Heart. It’s basically a swirling mass of dark flames, with a vibrant violet center, and it dramatically increased his power. Immediately, his mana surged by over 100,000, giving him an almost limitless energy source. With the Black Heart, Jinwoo wasn’t restricted by the number of shadows he could create or maintain – he could summon as many as he needed, constantly replenishing them without any apparent limit. It was clear to me that this wasn’t just a power-up; it marked his true ascension, solidifying his place as the Shadow Monarch and making him an unbelievably powerful figure – easily one of the strongest characters I’ve ever seen, not just in the world of Solo Leveling, but across all anime.

Why Jinwoo’s Black Heart Is One Of Anime’s Most Iconic Transformations

While Solo Leveling might not have the most complex story or detailed background, it’s a remarkably thrilling anime. It’s become incredibly popular recently, and data from Crunchyroll proves it – in just two years, it’s become the most-watched and highest-rated anime on the platform. It’s gone head-to-head with established hits like My Hero Academia, One Piece, and Naruto, and has proven to be a strong competitor. The first season was so well-received that it even won Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year award for 2025.

Solo Leveling has quickly become a huge hit in the anime world, and the moment its main character gains the Black Heart – his signature ability – is set to be unforgettable for fans. While already incredibly popular in the manhwa community, seeing this power-up animated will take it to the next level and make it even more widely known.
