In the game NTE, the Esper Cycle is a lot like combining elements. When two different character traits interact, they create powerful effects that can help you win battles. These interactions are key to building a strong team – a team with no interactions won’t be as effective as one that works together seamlessly. Here’s a guide to understanding NTE‘s elemental reactions and how to make the most of them.
What Are Elemental Reactions In NTE And How To Trigger Them
In NTE, elemental reactions are known as Esper Cycles. When a character attacks, they build up Cycle Energy, which is displayed as a circular meter to the left of their health bar.
If you switch control to a character waiting off-screen who can interact with the characters currently in battle, they’ll join the fight by using their special support ability. This also starts any related Esper Cycle effects. If they don’t have a reaction available, they’ll join without using a support skill.
Characters like Haniel have a ‘Psyche’ element, and Hathor is a ‘Lakshana’ type. You can build up Haniel’s energy and then switch to Hathor, who will immediately use her support skill and cause a ‘Stain’ effect. The same thing happens if you build Hathor’s energy first and then switch to Haniel.
As a huge fan, I’ve discovered something really cool about how characters can boost Esper Cycles! Basically, certain characters can seriously amp them up. Take Blossom, for example – she normally creates these Vita Buds that fire off little healing bursts at enemies every couple of seconds. But if you have Nanally in your party with her, those bursts come out every second and there are way more of them! The best part? The character doesn’t even need to be involved in the Esper Cycle itself to give it a boost – just having them on the team is enough!
If you don’t like your current lineup, you can always perform a reroll in NTE.
All Esper Cycles In NTE
In NTE, switching between characters activates six different Esper Cycles: Remora, Blossom, Nova, Scorch, Hexed, and Stain. Successfully activating two of these cycles will unlock Discord and Charge.
Remora
The Remora Esper Cycle activates when you use a support skill on characters with both Cosmos and Lakshana elements. When activated on enemies, it applies the Remora debuff, which lasts for five seconds. Remora slows enemies down, reducing their movement and attack speed. This effect can’t be stacked or reapplied by triggering the cycle again.
I think this is one of the least effective reactions in NTE. It can become a bit more helpful when combined with another Esper Cycle, such as Charge, or with a character’s ability, like Hathor’s Delay Warning passive.
Blossom
Using Anima or Cosmos Espers activates Blossom, a special ability that grows a Vita Bud. This bud then releases five Vita Pistils which repeatedly attack your opponents every two seconds.
I really enjoy using the Esper Cycle, and it’s even better when combined with Nanally’s ability, which lets it attack enemies more often.
Nova
Applying a support skill between allies with Chaos and Psyche elements inflicts the Nova debuff on nearby enemies. Nova lasts for five seconds and then explodes, causing significant Mental damage.
This Esper Cycle is particularly strong in NTE. It lets you mark enemies with Nova, then freely switch characters or perform other actions while Nova charges up for a huge final attack.
Scorch
Characters who use Chaos or Incantation magic can cause Scorch, a special effect that gradually damages enemies after weakening them.
This is also another powerful debuff that you can trigger using a Chaos character.
Hexed
Hexed is activated when characters with Anima or Incantation skills use NTE. Once an enemy is Hexed, any damage they receive from Anima or Incantation attacks will be followed up with an additional 20% damage.
Using the Esper Cycle with characters who inflict high damage makes it more effective compared to other elemental reactions in NTE.
Stain
In NTE, using a support skill with either Lakshana or Psyche characters starts the Stain Esper Cycle. When enemies are affected by Stain, they become more vulnerable to attacks from both Lakshana and Psyche.
The Stain Esper Cycle is an ideal choice when creating a team focused on dealing damage with Lakshana or Psyche.
Discord
To succeed in the Discord Esper Cycle, your team needs characters who specialize in Psyche, Chaos, and Incantation. Chaos is key, as you must apply both Nova and Scorch debuffs to enemies at the same time. It’s best to start by applying Scorch, which lasts longer (15 seconds) than Nova (5 seconds). When an enemy has both Nova and Scorch active, it triggers Discord, making them easier to break – meaning you’ll need fewer attacks to shatter their defenses while both debuffs are present.
As a big fan of Discord Esper Cycles, I’ve found a team of Daffodil, Haniel, and Baicang is super effective. I like to start with Baicang’s Scorch to really boost the damage output. Then, using Haniel and Daffodil together is a game-changer – it lets you hit enemies with both Nova and Discord at the same time! Haniel amps up Nova, giving the whole team a nice ATK boost, and Daffodil lowers the enemy’s Break cap, which makes her even more powerful later on in the fight. It’s a really strong combo!
Don’t rush to pull for new Espers. First, learn about the next and future banners in NTE.
Charge
The Charge reaction requires having the characters Lakshana, Cosmos, and Anima in your team. Cosmos is key to making Charge happen, as you need to apply both Remora and Blossom. This reaction automatically activates when a Vita Bud attacks an enemy that’s been debuffed with Remora. Whenever a Vita Pistil hits an enemy with Remora applied, your active character gains 10 Ultimate Energy.
This is a great way to play characters whose main strength is their Ultimate ability, especially those connected to Fire, Water, or Wind. By timing your Esper Cycles correctly, you can ensure that character is currently in battle to fully absorb all the Ultimate Energy.
A powerful team for the Charge Esper Cycle can be built around MC, Hathor, and Nanally. Both MC and Hathor apply a debuff called Remora to enemies when they react to attacks, and Hathor extends the Esper Cycle’s duration from five to twelve seconds. Then, use Blossom between MC and Nanally, which Nanally will strengthen to target more of the enemy’s weak points. With Nanally as the active character, enemies will take damage from both the Blossom reaction and the Remora debuff, rapidly charging her Ultimate ability – the source of most of her damage.
