Quentin Tarantino’s complete Kill Bill saga is coming to streaming! The extended, combined version of Volume 1 and Volume 2—often called Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair—will be available on Peacock starting May 22nd. This is one of the first times the full movie has been so easily accessible outside of a few special showings in theaters, letting fans watch the entire story as Tarantino intended.
Okay, so Kill Bill is a wild ride. Originally, Quentin Tarantino planned this as one movie, but it ended up being split into two volumes, which honestly, works perfectly. The film centers around “The Bride,” brilliantly played by Uma Thurman, who’s a former assassin left for dead. Now, she’s on a seriously intense mission for revenge against the group who betrayed her – the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. Expect absolutely stunning martial arts action, but it’s not just about the fights. Tarantino really digs into the characters and their motivations, making for some really compelling scenes. It’s a fantastic blend of spectacle and substance.
Revisiting ‘Kill Bill: Volume 1’ and ‘Volume 2’
The two Kill Bill films offered very different experiences. Kill Bill: Volume 1 was a fast-paced, action-packed movie that critics loved, earning an 85% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Kill Bill: Volume 2, however, was more subdued. While still containing violent scenes, it spent more time developing the characters and their histories.
The movie delves deeper into the connection between the Bride and Bill, taking a slower pace that some found divisive, but was generally liked. Critics also gave it high marks on Rotten Tomatoes, appreciating how its mood differed from the first film. Ultimately, the two films showcase the range of Quentin Tarantino’s filmmaking approach.
The Whole Bloody Affair subtly alters the way these films connect, creating a smoother, more seamless story. Transitions between parts feel less abrupt, and some scenes appear differently – including extra footage and variations in style – compared to the original 2003 and 2004 versions released in theaters.
A Long Road To A Wider Release
Although The Whole Bloody Affair first shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004, it wasn’t widely available for many years. Quentin Tarantino occasionally showed the film at his theaters, like the New Beverly Cinema, but he didn’t give it a full release. One reason for the delay was that he wanted to have complete control over the film, and he waited until he owned all the rights before releasing the longer version.
The film finally had a wide release in theaters in December 2025, and audiences and critics loved it. Many reviewers said it felt like the definitive version of the Kill Bill story. That positive reception is reflected in its Rotten Tomatoes scores, where The Whole Bloody Affair still boasts a 100% rating from critics and a remarkable 98% audience score.
With this new release, The Whole Bloody Affair doesn’t just give you the film you know and love, it adds some fascinating extras. I was particularly intrigued by The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge, a beautifully animated short that shows us a piece of the story Tarantino originally envisioned. It’s not crucial to understanding Kill Bill, but it really highlights what had to be cut for time. Now, before anyone gets too excited, let me just say this: while it’s great to revisit this world, don’t expect this to signal a third Kill Bill movie. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to be in the cards.
In a 2024 appearance on the Club Random Podcast, the director explained why he won’t be making another film, using Toy Story as an example. He called the third Toy Story movie “magnificent” and one of the best he’s ever seen, adding that it’s particularly impactful if you’ve watched the first two. Tarantino then stated he has no interest in seeing Toy Story 4.
The filmmaker explained he’s finished with the Kill Bill saga, even if a third movie could potentially be good. When Bill Maher, the podcast host, asked if that was why a third Kill Bill film likely wouldn’t happen, Tarantino confirmed it with a simple, ‘Yeah,’ and jokingly added, ‘I killed Bill.’
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair begins streaming on Peacock on May 22.
