The Void Century is a hugely important period in the world of One Piece. It involved a large-scale war between an alliance of twenty kingdoms and the Ancient Kingdom, led by Joy Boy. First officially mentioned in chapter 392 of the manga, this era drastically changed the world and ultimately led to its destruction, as depicted in chapter 1138 of the Elbaph Arc.

As the story of One Piece progresses, creator Eiichiro Oda is slowly unveiling the mysteries of the Void Century. We’re learning about powerful figures from that time, like Joy Boy, and this latest arc in the land of the Giants has introduced some of their descendants. It seems Oda is also preparing to reveal even more legendary figures as the story unfolds.

Nerona Imu, Joy Boy, and Davy D. Jones, And Nidhoggr Were The Most Legendary Figures That Lived In The 100-Year Void

The Void Century is arguably the most crucial period in the One Piece world. Records discovered in the Harley, revealed during the Elbaph Arc, call it the Second World and note the reappearance of the Sun God Nika. Eiichiro Oda has begun to introduce the key figures from this era, including Nerona Imu, the World Sovereign who emerged victorious from a major war.

As a huge One Piece fan, I’m completely fascinated by Joy Boy! He’s shaping up to be the key figure from the Void Century, being the original pirate who fought against the 20 Kingdoms – Vegapunk confirmed that in Chapter 1114! But Joy Boy isn’t the only incredible character from that era. We also have Davy D. Jones, who was first hinted at way back in the Long Ring Long Land Arc (Chapter 306), but we’ve learned so much more about him through the Rocks D. Xebec flashbacks. It’s wild to think he might have been the previous World King and one of Imu’s biggest enemies! The stories say he was cursed to wander the ocean floor forever, but honestly, his real story is still a total mystery, and I can’t wait to learn more!

Davy Jones was once the King of the World! — Davy D. Xebec, One Piece Chapter 1164

The Nidhoggr is another powerful figure from the mysterious Void Century. This massive dragon has been asleep for centuries, but was once a force to be reckoned with – and it seems to have been active during the 100-year period of lost history, based on its connection to Imu. It’s exciting to see these ancient beings reappear through their descendants, and that’s a key part of what makes the Final Saga so compelling.

Loki, Blackbeard, Luffy, Mihawk, and Shanks Are The Descendants Of The Legendary Figures From The Void Century

The most prominent figures from the mysterious Void Century all have living relatives or successors, and we’re starting to learn who they are. For example, the legendary Lightning Dragon, Nidhoggr, has reappeared through a character named Loki, who consumed a special Devil Fruit 14 years ago, as revealed in Chapter 1175. For centuries, a guardian named Ragnir protected this fruit, waiting for the right person to come along. After battling and judging Loki, Ragnir allowed him to eat the fruit, officially bringing Nidhoggr back into the world. Though the ancient War God of Elbaph is gone, Loki is now carrying on their legacy.

Elbaph has a story about a powerful Warrior God who fought the Sun God. This god used a weapon called Ragnir—essentially, Iron Lightning—and could transform into a gigantic dragon! He wasn’t alone in the battle, though; he had a faithful companion, an ice squirrel named Ratatoskr. — Jarul, One Piece Chapter 1175

Just as Davy Jones was defeated by Nerona Imu centuries ago, his lineage lived on, eventually leading to the birth of Rocks D. Xebec and, through him, Marshall D. Teach. Blackbeard is now carrying on Davy Jones’ legacy and shares his ambition, which is a major reason why Imu fears him. Joy Boy may be gone, but his bloodline and will continue through others. Luffy currently possesses Joy Boy’s Devil Fruit power, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. However, a strong link has emerged between Joy Boy and Red-haired Shanks, and it’s possible Shanks shares Joy Boy’s bloodline, potentially through his mother, who was killed in God Valley 38 years ago.

There’s strong evidence suggesting Mihawk has ties to the Nerona family and even Imu, a mysterious and powerful figure in the world of One Piece. Interestingly, “Mihawk” literally translates to “Son of the Devil.” In chapter 1181, Nerona Imu wielded a sword called the Blade of Judgment: Nemesis, which bears a striking resemblance to Mihawk’s own sword, Yoru.
