They’re generally gentle and have a fondness for witches, especially because they love the scent of magical ink. These creatures live all over the world of Witch Hat Atelier, and are particularly common in the Dadah Range—one of these brushbuddies even becomes a central character and is frequently seen alongside the witches of Qifrey’s Atelier, like the one Coco encounters during her time there.

The third episode of Witch Hat Atelier focuses on Coco’s difficult relationship with her demanding fellow apprentice, Agott, who is immediately frustrated by Coco’s presence. Agott challenges Coco to complete a dangerous task in the Dadah Range – finding a rare Diadem Herb that grows on floating islands – as a condition of continuing her apprenticeship with Qifrey. What Coco doesn’t know is that Qifrey didn’t assign this trial; Agott created it herself, fueled by her dislike and lack of trust in Coco.
While exploring the Dadah Range, Coco develops a clever plan to find the Diadem Herb, using the magic she’s learned. She also meets a small, fluffy creature called a Brushbuddy. As Coco’s confidence grows, the Brushbuddy supports her as she carries out her plan, and even asks to join her. Soon, the Brushbuddy becomes a beloved member of Qifrey’s Atelier, forming a close bond with Coco and Richeh. Qifrey nicknames it “PuffPuff”, a name the Brushbuddy clearly dislikes.
