Whether it’s a classic Sith Lord, one of the Inquisitors, or even a Jedi who’s fallen to the dark side, these guys are consistently the biggest threats in the Star Wars galaxy. They’re just incredibly powerful and intimidating foes.
10. Savage Opress’s Brutality Is Clear in Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Savage Opress, Darth Maul’s brother, is a particularly heartbreaking character in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He was exploited and controlled by both the Nightsisters and the Sith, ultimately becoming Maul’s apprentice. Despite their combined strength, they were defeated by Darth Sidious, who killed Savage and then captured Maul.
Savage isn’t as graceful with a lightsaber as some other powerful fighters in the Star Wars universe. But his raw, aggressive strength makes him incredibly dangerous. Serving first under Count Dooku and later with Maul, he caused widespread destruction. Because of this, he remains one of the most formidable red lightsaber wielders.
9. Inquisitor Marrok Has Been Given More Room to Shine in Maul – Shadow Lord
As a huge Star Wars fan, I was really intrigued by Marrok. He’s actually a pretty big deal – he was the First Brother of the Inquisitors! But you know, it’s funny, he didn’t really make a splash until the Ahsoka series. He showed up as this seriously powerful mercenary working with Morgan Elsbeth, trying to bring Grand Admiral Thrawn back into the galaxy. We got to see him go head-to-head with Ahsoka Tano a few times, and while he was a formidable fighter, Ahsoka ultimately proved too strong. She took him down in Season 1, Episode 4, “Fallen Jedi.” It was a great fight, but Ahsoka definitely won that round!

Marrok truly shines in his early appearances as the First Brother of the Inquisitors in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. Throughout the first season, he relentlessly hunts down Maul, and later, Jedi Master Eeko-Dio Daki and his Padawan, Devon Izara. Working with the Eleventh Brother, Marrok participates in some of the most exciting lightsaber duels in Star Wars and establishes himself as a dangerous enemy during the Imperial Era.
8. The Grand Inquisitor Was Star Wars’ Most Powerful Jedi Hunter
As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the Inquisitors. After the Emperor took power and pretty much wiped out the Jedi with Order 66, these guys became Palpatine and Vader’s primary hunters – tasked with tracking down and eliminating any Jedi who survived. What’s really interesting is that the leader, the Grand Inquisitor, used to be a Jedi Temple Guard! He basically designed the whole system of recruiting fallen Jedi to become Inquisitors. He was the most powerful of them all, leading his fellow Inquisitors on missions and, sadly, killing a lot of Jedi in the name of the Empire. It’s a tragic story, really, seeing how someone dedicated to protecting the Jedi could become one of their greatest enemies.
The Grand Inquisitor is the primary villain in the Star Wars Rebels series, relentlessly pursuing Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger. He was defeated by Kanan in Season 1, Episode 15, “Fire Across the Galaxy,” but chose to fall to his death rather than face the consequences of his failure to Darth Vader. Even after his death, Darth Vader bound the Grand Inquisitor’s spirit to guard an old Jedi Temple, preventing others from accessing its secrets. During his time as an Inquisitor, he was a fearsome figure who helped the Empire expand and maintain control. Despite being defeated, the Grand Inquisitor remains a powerful and memorable lightsaber duelist.
7. Kylo Ren Was the Latest Generation of Star Wars’ Dark Side
Kylo Ren, born as Ben Solo to Han Solo and Leia Organa, attempted to follow in Darth Vader’s footsteps. The Supreme Leader Snoke exploited Ben’s family history – revealing that Darth Vader was actually his grandfather, Anakin Skywalker – to turn him against his parents. Under Snoke’s guidance, Ben transformed into Kylo Ren, a strong leader in the First Order who fought for a return to the Empire’s principles and galactic dominance.

Although not every character who uses a red lightsaber is a Sith, most Sith in the official Star Wars stories are known for wielding red blades. Among all the Sith throughout Star Wars history, Darth Bane stands out as one of the most powerful. He created the “Rule of Two” for the Sith, a guideline that continued to be followed for centuries after his passing.
Darth Bane primarily appears as a Force Ghost in Season 6, Episode 13 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, titled “Sacrifice.” Though weaker in spirit form, he’s still a powerful and frightening figure. Despite living long before the events of the main Star Wars films, Bane’s teachings continue to influence the Sith and their schemes across the galaxy.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I think Palpatine is the ultimate villain. It’s incredible how he started as a seemingly normal Senator and carefully played everyone, dragging the galaxy into war just to gain power. He became Emperor through deception and his mastery of the dark side, and even managed to come back from the dead after Vader defeated him! It’s just… astounding how much chaos one person could cause.
Looking back at the prequel films and The Clone Wars series, it’s clear Palpatine wasn’t just a master manipulator – he was a seriously skilled fighter. I remember being shocked when he handily defeated both Maul and Savage Opress in Season 5 of The Clone Wars. And it wasn’t a fluke! He held his own against Jedi trying to arrest him in Revenge of the Sith, and of course, his duel with Yoda is iconic. While he increasingly favored Force lightning as a weapon, he was genuinely dangerous whether he was using a lightsaber or not. He wasn’t just a puppet master; he could absolutely fight.
