At Jump Festa 2024, a new anime adaptation of One Piece was announced. This remake, titled The One Piece, is being produced by Wit Studio in partnership with Netflix. While the project has been underway for over a year, details have been limited. Today, May 5, 2026, Netflix and the official The One Piece anime project on X revealed that the new series will be released in 2027. The adaptation will begin with the East Blue Saga and promises a pacing that fans will appreciate.
Wit Studio’s The One Piece Anime Will Officially Stream On Netflix In February 2027
Netflix and Sit Studio’s anime adaptation of One Piece, first announced in December 2024, offers a fresh, contemporary take on Eiichiro Oda’s original work. Eiichiro Oda specifically requested the use of advanced technology to appeal to today’s audiences, as confirmed by WIT Studio’s president, George Wada.
Wit Studio decided to remake the One Piece anime after Eiichiro Oda, the series creator, realized that while the story is incredibly detailed and expansive, the older animation might not grab new viewers accustomed to modern shows. He regretted that younger audiences might miss out on the story and wanted to make it more accessible to them. — George Wada, Wit Studio CEO
Netflix announced today that the new One Piece anime series will premiere in February 2027. With over two years in production, the series is expected to be a high-quality adaptation. The first season will consist of 7 episodes, all released simultaneously on Netflix. While some fans prefer weekly episodes, this full-season release is a trade-off many are willing to accept given the anticipated quality of the show.
The One Piece Season 1 Will Adapt The First 50 Chapters Of The Manga
The first season of the new One Piece anime remake will cover approximately the first 50 chapters of the original manga. This includes Luffy’s backstory with Shanks, the beginning of his journey, the events in Shells Town and Orange Town (including his fight with Buggy), the Syrup Village arc, and the start of the Baratie arc, leading up to when Luffy first encounters Sanji.
There’s currently no news about when season two will come out. It will likely be at least a year before a new season is ready, and it could take even longer to ensure it’s well-made.

New One Piece Anime To Adapt 7 Chapters Per Episode, With 300 Minutes Of Total Runtime
A major goal of the new One Piece anime, being remade by Wit Studio, is to improve how quickly the story moves. The original One Piece anime by Toei Animation often suffered from slow pacing, sometimes stretching a single manga chapter across two episodes. A good anime adaptation usually covers around three or four chapters per episode, and this new remake from Wit Studio and Netflix seems to be hitting that sweet spot.
The upcoming anime remake of One Piece will cover roughly 7 chapters per episode. Each episode will be over 42 minutes long – totaling 300 minutes of content – which is twice the length of a typical anime episode. This means fans can expect each episode to adapt the equivalent of 3 to 4 standard 21-minute episodes, offering what many consider ideal pacing.
That’s all the information available to fans right now, but as the project nears completion, we can expect a new trailer in the coming months. Fans are starting to learn more about this highly anticipated product, and it promises to be very exciting when it’s released.
