FBC: Firebreak is Not Shutting Down After All

Remedy Entertainment initially announced in March that they were stopping active development on their online shooter, FBC: Firebreak, after it didn’t sell well and received lukewarm reviews. It seemed like another live-service game that hadn’t found an audience. However, Remedy has now confirmed that the game will remain playable on consoles and PC.

Remedy has confirmed that FBC: Firebreak will stay available on PC, Game Pass, and PlayStation Plus, even though they won’t be adding any new content. This means the small number of players who still enjoy the game can keep playing without it being taken offline. Currently, the game has very few players on Steam – only two at the time of this report – and never reached a large audience, peaking at under 2,000 players months ago.

This game’s launch and continued operation have been a major disappointment, and it’s surprising how little attention it’s getting. It’s positive that Remedy Entertainment is still keeping the servers running, but it’s unclear how long they can maintain it. Fortunately, keeping the game online doesn’t seem to require much effort from the developers. The last update, called “Open House,” came out in March, shortly before Remedy announced they wouldn’t be creating any more new content.

If you’re still keen to try FBC: Firebreak while it lasts, the description reads:

Firebreak is a cooperative, first-person shooter where you play as members of a specialized federal agency battling supernatural threats. After a long siege, the agency’s headquarters is on the verge of collapse, and only its elite unit, Firebreak, has the skills and equipment to investigate the most bizarre incidents, restore stability, and take back control.
