IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series, is preparing to launch its new James Bond game, 007 First Light. However, they also have other projects in the works, including Project Fantasy, an online RPG that’s reportedly progressing well, according to a recent interview.
IO Interactive, the studio behind the popular Hitman series, is expanding its horizons with some ambitious new projects. They’re launching 007 First Light on May 27th, which promises a fresh take on James Bond games and a new direction for the studio. While 007 First Light appears to cleverly combine elements of Hitman and Uncharted, their game, Project Fantasy, will be an even more significant step away from what IO Interactive is known for.
IO Interactive’s Project Fantasy Could Be the Developer’s Next Game After Hitman and 007 First Light
IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak recently told The Game Business Show that development on Project Fantasy is proceeding as expected. While he didn’t share many details about the game, it’s reassuring news for fans who were concerned the project might have been canceled following Xbox’s decision to cut games and partnerships last year. Project Fantasy is being financed by an unnamed partner, though many believe Xbox is providing the funding.

Abrak remained secretive about who they were working with, refusing to reveal any details about the partner. He stated he wouldn’t confirm or deny anything regarding speculation about Xbox’s involvement. However, he did share that Project Fantasy was progressing well, still had funding, and was looking great. While specific details are scarce, Project Fantasy is anticipated to be a multiplayer role-playing game.
IO Interactive, known for the popular Hitman series, originally wanted to create an online multiplayer game called Rex Dominus. While that project was put on hold, fans have wondered if their new game, Project Fantasy, might be a revamped version of it. IO Interactive has proven they excel at making games where players have lots of choices and freedom – Hitman‘s levels are incredibly creative, and their 007 First Light game hints at a similar style. It would be exciting to see that kind of open-ended gameplay in a large, multiplayer fantasy role-playing game.
It is in a very healthy place, it’s still financed, and it’s amazing.
