Moving ahead, SteamOS from Valve will be accessible and deployed on external devices. This announcement coincides with the unveiling of the Lenovo Legion Go S at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025.
Additionally, this development follows closely on the heels of Valve’s confirmation that they are developing a version of their operating system for various devices.
On Steam’s official website, Valve states that their operating system has been designed to deliver a smooth gaming experience while maintaining the versatility and flexibility of a PC. Currently, this OS is not available on other portable devices, but improvements made for the Lenovo Legion Go S (which features SteamOS instead of Windows) will enhance the OS’s adaptability with other handheld PCs in the future.
Before the launch of Legion Go S, we’re planning to release a beta version of SteamOS. This could enhance the gaming experience on other handheld devices as well. Users are welcome to download and experiment with it themselves. Furthermore, we will keep enhancing the platform and adding support for better user experience in future updates.
It’s uncertain which devices will run on SteamOS in the future, but it seems likely they’ll be revealed soon. Additionally, there are whispers that Valve is reviving Steam Machines, a project that was initially introduced over a decade ago and made available to consumers.
