Many new games are still being released on both PS4 and PS5, even though the PS4 is over a decade old. While updates for the PS4 have become less frequent, Sony is now encouraging some players to upgrade to the PS5 to enjoy a major new game coming in 2026.
PlayStation is Urging GTA Fans on PS4 to Upgrade to PS5
Some PlayStation 4 users are receiving messages from Sony encouraging them to upgrade to the PlayStation 5. These messages are being sent to people who currently play Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS4, as well as those who have shown interest in Grand Theft Auto 6 by adding it to their wishlist. The messages include a QR code that links to the PlayStation 5 store page. Sony is also highlighting the upcoming release date of Grand Theft Auto 6, scheduled for November 19, 2026, in these communications.

Sony’s recent marketing campaign is capitalizing on the massive hype surrounding GTA 6, which is expected to be one of the biggest game releases of 2026. The initial trailers for the new Grand Theft Auto game were incredibly popular on YouTube, setting records for video launches on the platform. Even before it’s out, GTA 6 has already won several awards, including being named “Most Anticipated Game” at The Game Awards for two years in a row (2024 and 2025). Despite numerous leaks of gameplay footage and information, anticipation for the game remains extremely high.
As a big gamer, I’ve noticed a trend lately – some of my favorite franchises are leaving the PlayStation 4 behind. It’s not just Grand Theft Auto anymore! Xbox just announced the next Call of Duty won’t be coming to older consoles, meaning no PS4 version. That’s a first for Call of Duty since the PS4 first came out! And it’s not just shooters – even Genshin Impact, which I love, stopped letting people download it on PS4 at the end of 2025. It’s a little sad to see these games move on, but I guess it’s just the way things are going.
