Switch 2 Mario Kart 24 Car Grid

Today, Nintendo publicly revealed the long-awaited successor to the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2, through a concise yet intriguing video that strongly implies the development of a fresh installment in the popular Mario Kart series.

It remains uncertain whether this will be dubbed “Mario Kart 9” or another name, and its reveal was overshadowed by the new console announcement. However, as per VG247’s report, the creator of Mario Kart, Mankalor, noticed a significant change in the game that could be a major feature in the next-generation version.

From above, you can clearly see approximately twelve vehicles approaching the finishing point in unison, however, there’s an interesting twist. The starting lineup is divided into four rows, accommodating a total of twenty-four cars.

It’s possible that this design element is unique to this particular track within the game, but it seems uncharacteristic of Nintendo to take such an approach given that Mario Kart tracks don’t have multiple classes and events happening simultaneously on the same course, eliminating the necessity for distinct markings as found in real-life racing tracks.

It’s quite probable that Mario Kart will take the lead over Formula 1’s plan for a 22-car lineup in their 2026 season, which is fielded by 11 teams. In anticipation, Mario Kart may opt to have 24 cars featured in its potential 2025 release, aiming to surpass Formula 1’s announcement.

New Multiplayer Omens?

Engaging in a 24-kart race in Mario Kart promises thrilling opportunities. It’s anticipated that Nintendo will provide more specifics as we get closer to the game launch, however, there’s been some speculation regarding its execution.

Is it saying that there are 24 players connected, either online or locally? Or is it going to be 12 human players and an additional 12 AI-controlled drivers?

To increase the number of racers by twice, it might be necessary to adjust the layout of the race tracks, particularly those that are slim like Rainbow Road, as overtaking becomes even more challenging with a group of 12 racers on such a track.

It’s possible that the power-ups may require adjustments too, since expanding the grid could result in a shortage of resources and an unrelenting barrage of shell attacks from overly competitive trailing players.

As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled at the prospect that Mario Kart’s expanded grid might just be the breakthrough Andretti has been longing for, potentially securing a place in international motor racing competitions. After years of unsuccessful Formula 1 bids, this could be their chance to shine on the global stage!
