Resident Evil Requiem Developers Say This is Why Ada Isn’t in the Game

This article received an update on May 9, 2026, from Andrea Trama, who added a list of Resident Evil games featuring Ada Wong. It was originally published on April 29.

Okay, so as a big Resident Evil fan, I’ve been wondering for ages why Ada Wong wasn’t in Resident Evil: Requiem. Well, the developers finally explained it! Turns out, it wasn’t some big story reason – it was just a practical decision. They basically said it was easier to make the game without her than to try and force her in. A little disappointing, but at least we have an answer!

Given the length of the Resident Evil series, it’s inevitable that some characters get less focus over time. While Ada has appeared more recently than characters like Jill Valentine – who hasn’t been central to the main storyline since Resident Evil 5 (outside of a spin-off film) – her absence was especially noticeable in Resident Evil Requiem. This is because Ada and Leon have consistently been paired together in games ever since they first appeared in Resident Evil 2.

Resident Evil Requiem Left Ada Out for Practical Reasons

Game director Akifumi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa recently spoke with Denfaminico Gamer about Resident Evil Requiem. During the interview, they discussed the game’s downloadable content, and briefly addressed the absence of the character Ada Wong. The interviewer, a longtime fan of the series, noted they had anticipated Ada would appear in the game, but she didn’t.

Nakanishi shared that they considered several character names during development, but Ada didn’t have a necessary role in the story as it unfolded. Kumazawa added that while they discussed including her, they were happy with how Leon and Grace’s story developed and decided to leave her out. It seems the team also preferred to focus on just two playable characters.

Here’s a list of games featuring Ada Wong, excluding any crossover appearances or mobile versions.

  • Resident Evil 2
  • Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles
  • Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
  • Resident Evil 6
  • Resident Evil Re:Verse

The developers haven’t shared any details about Ada Wong’s potential role in the story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem. While fans love her, it’s likely she’ll appear eventually, even if not in this DLC. However, Ada isn’t the only important character from the Raccoon City incident missing from Requiem. Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Carlos Oliveira, all from Resident Evil 3, are also absent. The story does feature Sherry Birkin, but she doesn’t appear in Raccoon City itself, allowing the focus to remain on Leon and Grace.

The anticipation for Ada’s appearance is probably due to the way the developers handled information before the game launched. Similar to how they kept Leon’s involvement in Resident Evil Requiem a secret – despite rumors and even debunked leaks – they didn’t officially confirm his presence until The Game Awards trailer. Now, players will have to be patient and wait to see when Ada will appear, but the development team is definitely aware fans want her back.
