You Won’t Believe How to DESTROY Invincible Portals in Divinity: Original Sin 2!

In the finale of “Divinity: Original Sin 2“, you’ll encounter some particularly tough foes, including the formidable Cursed Revenants. These enemies surprise you during your exploration of the scorched lizard consulate within the city of Arx.

Initially, these beings resemble regular lizards, but slaying one opens up an indestructible gateway known as an Infernal Ego portal, which has the power to revive these creatures. Overcoming these creatures requires discerning the origin of their resurrection and eradicating it.

Cursed Revanents Are Invincible

Unlike many battles in Divinity: Original Sin 2, traditional force-based combat strategies prove ineffective against the Cursed Revenants. Despite repeatedly killing them, they will persistently resurface to add to your challenges. When you defeat a revenant, it leaves behind an Infernal Ego portal which is impervious to any damage type.

If you carefully observe the battlefield, you’ll see that both the Cursed Revenants and their resurrection points—the Infernal Egos—tend to appear on areas ignited by necrofire. Eliminating the necrofire will stop the Infernal Egos from appearing, which in turn prevents the Cursed Revenants from being summoned. However, this task is not simple because necrofire, unlike ordinary fire, cannot be extinguished using Hydrosophist spells like Rain.

How To Remove Necrofire In Divinity: Original Sin 2

In the game titled “Divinity: Original Sin 2“, various methods are available for players to handle necrofire, yet not all techniques are equally potent. Here’s a rundown of strategies for dealing with or extinguishing necrofire, ranked from least effective to most powerful:

1. Water-based attacks: Using water spells or abilities can help dampen the flames of necrofire, but it may not be enough to completely put it out.
2. Cold-based attacks: Applying cold effects to the necrofire will slow its spread and potentially weaken it, but it may still persist.
3. Fire-based attacks: This might seem counterintuitive, but some fire spells can extinguish necrofire by overpowering it with regular flame. However, this method is not always reliable.
4. Necromancy: Using necromantic abilities to manipulate the necrofire can sometimes lead to its destruction, but success depends on the specific spell used and the caster’s skill.
5. Source removal: Targeting the source of the necrofire, such as a possessed creature or an enchanted object, is the most effective way to eliminate it permanently. This strategy requires careful observation and strategic planning.

  1. Remove the Curse: Being a cursed element, necrofire is immune to standard Hydro spells. However, certain spells like Bless and Blood Rain can remove the cursed status, turning necrofire into regular fire. Once converted, you can use a standard Hydro spell like Rain or simply drop a nearby water barrel to extinguish the flames.
  2. Use Tornado: The Tornado spell is arguably the most effective terrain-clearing tool in the game. Casting Tornado clears a significant patch of necrofire, restricting the areas where revenants can respawn. However, Tornado has a long cooldown, making it less reliable for consecutive uses.
  3. Transmute the Terrain: While not as efficient as Tornado, the Terrain Transmutation spell enables you to swap portions of terrain. This can be used to replace necrofire with normal terrain, removing large patches of it for the Infernal Egos to reposition.
  4. Teleport: Since the Cursed Revenants and Infernal Egos rely on necrofire, another effective strategy is to teleport them away from the cursed surface before killing them. If the Infernal Ego cannot reach necrofire in a single turn, it will be destroyed.

As a devoted follower, I’ve discovered an intriguing fact: Slaying a Cursed Revenant on consecrated ground, like Blessed Water, effectively seals the Infernal Ego away. Surprisingly, it seems that administering healing spells such as Restoration and First Aid can also inflict damage upon these revenants.
