Hyper Light Breaker: 6 Essential Tips for Survival

In the game called Hyper Light Breaker, it doesn’t provide many instructions for players initially. However, some elements are designed to be discovered gradually as players explore and engage with the game. Learning a few fundamental tips about Hyper Light Breaker can give you a head start in the Overgrowth.

One effective way to phrase advice for playing Hyper Light Breaker is: The top tip when starting out with Hyper Light Breaker is to remember that this game is more like a marathon than a sprint. Instead of rushing through runs, focus on staying alive and completing Cycles efficiently. Take your time, familiarize yourself with the basics, and follow these initial tips for Hyper Light Breaker to make progress as productively as possible.

1. Gather & Explore In Your First Few Cycles

As I stepped into the Overgrowth for the very first time, I realized that diving headfirst into crafting a flawless build or battling the Crown bosses wasn’t the smart move. Instead, it was wiser to dedicate my time to understanding the game mechanics, particularly the combat system, and gathering as many resources and items as possible.

Example: To reactivate and access the three suppliers at the Accursed Outpost, you’ll need a total of 36 Materials, divided evenly among them (12 each). This may require multiple attempts and several game cycles to gather enough. Medigems aren’t particularly helpful initially as they only grant 5 HP upon collection, but they persist in your inventory across cycles. When you eventually unlock Medkits, these Medigems will refresh the number of healing uses available to you.

Initially, avoid rushing straight to the Prisms and Leaders during your initial playthroughs. Instead, take time to traverse the map, learn about its randomly generated elements and battle strategies, and gather all unique resources and loot to enhance your subsequent gameplay sessions.

2. Upgrade Medkits & Unlock Gear Upgrades

Following a full Cycle, Pherus Bit will show up near the teleporter to evaluate your advancement. This progress is shown by a yellow bar displayed centrally on the screen. As you accomplish map objectives such as gathering equipment, obtaining Prisms, defeating mini-bosses and bosses, the bar fills up more. If the bar is completely filled, you will receive a Golden Ration as a reward.

In the game called Hyper Light Breaker, Golden Rations are quite versatile, but it’s advisable to focus on acquiring Medkits and improving your Equipment first. You can obtain Medkits by following a path in the Skill Tree, which you can personalize using Pherus Bit. Simply spend a Golden Ration at the node directly to the right of the “Tier 1” text to unlock this feature.

Once you’ve gained access to Medkits, don’t forget to arm yourself with it before venturing back into the wilderness. For your following two Golden Rations, consider investing in enhancing your relationship with the Blade and Rail merchants in the Hub. By raising your affinity with each of them by one level, you can enhance your equipment with Bright Blood, which boosts durability, damage, and occasionally adds new effects.

3. Sell Degraded Items For Bright Blood In The Hub

Should you meet your end while out for a run, any gear you have equipped at the time will undergo a minor reduction in durability. This applies to Holos as well. The durability of an item is represented by bars situated below the item’s description. If an item has only one Durability left, the bar will span its entire description. For items with two Durability, you’ll see two bars, three Durability means three bars, and so forth.

If your gear is about to fail, think about selling it for Bright Blood and Materials as an alternative. You can find the Sell option at any vendor, which allows you to choose from the items you’re currently wearing and those stored in your Stash. Check the durability of each item by hovering over it. If it’s close to breaking or you don’t need it, consider selling it to gather some Bright Blood, which can help you buy new equipment or upgrades during gameplay.

4. Extraction Is Key To Finishing Cycles

To maximize your chances of completing a run in Hyper Light Breaker, make sure to include Extraction as a key part of your strategy. Extracting from the overgrowth allows you to retain all your Rez, Durability, and resources, rather than losing them. This sends you back to the Hub where you can safely upgrade and replace gear before diving back in.

When you trigger an Extraction, you’ll encounter a horde of enemies and a mini-boss, but this event also restores your health by 50HP. To find the Extraction point on your map, look for the icon of a vertical white line with a red arrow pointing upwards. If you have enough resources to purchase something valuable, if the danger level has reached or exceeded 50%, or if your health is dwindling, then it’s time to make your way towards the Extraction point.

5. Grab Every Map Node & Prism Before Bosses

Once you’ve gotten the hang of the game and grown more certain in your skills, you might find yourself eager to challenge the initial Crown boss. However, it’s essential to note that usually, only after great fortune do players accumulate the necessary 2x Prisms for this fight. Unfortunately, if you’ve managed to gather two Prisms, your current game setup may not be strong enough to defeat a Crown boss.

In the game, the challenges can be quite harsh, but boosting your chances is possible if you conquer each node on every map within Overgrowth prior to confronting your initial cycle’s boss. Gather every item of equipment, every holo, and every Prism before battling the two-Prism Crown boss. With this collection, you’ll have a wide array of options to assemble a robust setup for the fight.

In case your health points aren’t fully restored, don’t forget to retreat between battles to recharge and prepare for the upcoming boss.

Approach the three Leaders with equal preparation, as they each present a formidable challenge. Since they share similar levels of difficulty, it’s wise to maximize your character’s strength before tackling them. If you manage to defeat the initial boss, often referred to as Dro, the Wolf, then chances are you can overcome the others as well.

To maximize your chances against these bosses, try to Extract frequently throughout each cycle. Extraction carries no negative consequences, so feel free to enter and exit as you clear nodes, conserving as much Resurrection (Rez) as you can.

6. Multiplayer Makes Things Much More Manageable

While you can solo play and conquer a Cycle in Hyper Light Breaker, playing with a Squad noticeably simplifies the game. Having teammates in your group not only increases the enemies’ health slightly, but also provides them with multiple targets to engage, thus dividing their focus.

In my gaming world, let me tell you, one of the trickiest aspects about solo-playing Hyper Light Breaker is getting swarmed by a horde of enemies simultaneously. I mean, 20 or more adversaries attacking at once? Talk about intense! But when I’ve got a couple of friends joining in, the combat situation becomes significantly easier to handle. The more hands on deck, the better the odds, right?

In Hyper Light Breaker, you have the option to either create a private group to play with friends or utilize the in-game matchmaking system to join a random public group. To access the multiplayer menu in Hyper Light Breaker, simply approach the counter near Pherus Bit and interact with the NPC.
