Forza Horizon 6 Fans Aren’t Happy About the AE86

Early looks at Forza Horizon 6 suggest the popular Toyota AE86 might not look its best in the game. The developers, Playground Games, likely didn’t have the resources to completely update every older car model, and many fans feel the AE86 deserved special attention.

The racing game Forza Horizon 6 is finished and ready for release, and it looks like the developers, Playground Games, have overcome any challenges during development. Fans are generally enthusiastic about the new game, especially its Japan setting and the updated gameplay that Forza Horizon is known for. However, some issues have been found, like problems with the AE86 car model, though most players probably won’t notice them while playing.

Forza Horizon 6’s Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno is Still Inaccurate, But Slightly Better Than It Was

Okay, so I’ve been a huge Forza fan for ages, and I was pretty shocked to see that the Toyota AE86 in Forza Horizon 6 still uses the old model, even with the new Japan setting! Someone on Reddit, Martin_Sandman, posted a side-by-side comparison gif with the real car, and the difference is noticeable. Forza Horizon 6 generally looks amazing, but this one detail really bugs long-time players like me – it feels like Playground Games hasn’t updated it in forever. It’s still a little off in terms of proportions and the lights aren’t quite right, though thankfully they fixed the issue with the headlights drooping from previous games.

While it’s a small detail in a massive game like Forza Horizon 6, the developers at Playground Games could have done a better job with the AE86 model, especially with the game now set in Japan. This car is a hugely important part of Japanese car culture and anime, so players were always going to pay close attention to how it looked in the game. It seems Playground Games might not have been able to get a detailed enough scan of a real AE86 to update the model. And putting it next to the beautifully updated Mazda RX-7 really highlights its flaws.

It’s especially frustrating because Turn 10 previously indicated that it’s nearly impossible to swap car models in a released Forza game. This leaves players with a disappointing version of the AE86 in a Forza Horizon game set in Japan, as far as we know. While that information might be old or incorrect, it seems unlikely Playground Games would have released a better version of the AE86 from the start if they could. This is the second issue we’ve found with cars in the game. Previously, players noticed that one of the featured cars promised before launch isn’t actually available, according to rewards offered to those loyal to Forza Horizon 6.

Besides some incorrect and missing cars, the Auction House is back in Forza Horizon 6. While not a major problem on its own, it could potentially cause some unforeseen issues with the game’s economy, so players will have to see how it plays out. Currently, Forza Horizon 6 doesn’t have any game-breaking problems, but it’s not likely to be a perfect racing experience either. Luckily, missing cars can probably be added later. However, players might be stuck with the AE86 as is.
