This negative reaction is largely due to the involvement of Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who consulted on the game. Sarkeesian gained prominence – and faced significant controversy – in 2014 with her YouTube series “Tropes vs. Women,” which examined how women are depicted in video games. While her work has many supporters, it also led to harassment from some gamers. So far, the game developer, Mega Crit, hasn’t responded to the negative feedback or explained exactly what Sarkeesian did on the sequel.

Mega Crit, the team behind Slay the Spire, recently updated the game based on player feedback. A major change was replacing the challenging Act 3 boss, Doormaker, with a new boss called Aeonglass. Many players found Doormaker frustrating because it didn’t work well with many different card strategies and felt too difficult.
