Slay the Spire 2 is Being Review-Bombed Yet Again

The new game Slay the Spire 2 is receiving negative reviews on Steam, largely due to the involvement of consultant Anita Sarkeesian. Developed by Mega Crit, Slay the Spire 2 launched in Early Access in March 2026 and quickly became very popular on Steam, attracting more players than games like Rust, ARC Raiders, Resident Evil Requiem, and Apex Legends.

Since its release, the game has had a difficult time. In April 2026, changes to the game’s balance sparked controversy and some players accused the developers of trying to control how people played. This led to a wave of negative reviews on Steam. While the developers seemed to listen to feedback, the game is now receiving negative reviews again, but this time for an entirely new reason.

Slay the Spire 2 is Being Review Bombed Again

Recent reviews for Slay the Spire 2 on Steam are now overwhelmingly negative, with 66% of reviews from the last 30 days being critical. This negative reaction is largely due to the involvement of Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who consulted on the game. Sarkeesian gained prominence – and faced significant controversy – in 2014 with her YouTube series “Tropes vs. Women,” which examined how women are depicted in video games. While her work has many supporters, it also led to harassment from some gamers. So far, the game developer, Mega Crit, hasn’t responded to the negative feedback or explained exactly what Sarkeesian did on the sequel.

Slay the Spire 2 quickly became popular on Steam, reaching over 282,000 players at its launch and eventually exceeding 500,000. However, the number of players has since dropped, and many fans are unhappy with recent changes to the game’s balance and how it plays. This is the third time in under two months that players have expressed their dissatisfaction by leaving negative reviews.

Mega Crit has addressed a lot of player concerns in recent updates to Slay the Spire 2, but many on Reddit and Twitter still feel the game needs further improvement. Others argue the developers should be given more time to polish the game, considering it’s still under development.

Mega Crit, the team behind Slay the Spire, recently updated the game based on player feedback. A major change was replacing the challenging Act 3 boss, Doormaker, with a new boss called Aeonglass. Many players found Doormaker frustrating because it didn’t work well with many different card strategies and felt too difficult. This update also included new visuals, sound effects for cards, music, and fixes for various bugs.
