The first two episodes of Regular Show: The Lost Tapes are premiering today in a special 30-minute presentation, bringing back the popular animated series and its signature, unpredictable humor. We got an early look and are excited to share our thoughts as the show returns. It’s a fantastic tribute to everything fans enjoy about Regular Show, with a few nice updates and improvements.
The first two episodes of Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, “Coffee Shop Wars” and “Corpse Flower,” surprisingly focus on Margaret. Rigby and Mordecai have smaller roles this time around. “Coffee Shop Wars” is about a competitive battle between Margaret and a new coffee shop across the street, as they both try to create the best new drinks. It’s a fast-paced and energetic episode that’s perfect for fans who already love the show, and a good way to get reacquainted with the series.

The second episode, “Corpse Flower,” tries to address a common fan complaint: Margaret’s lack of character development. In the episode, Margaret invites Rigby, Eileen, and Mordecai to her poetry reading. The problem is, the reading coincides with a rare blooming of a ‘corpse flower.’ Mordecai decides to support Margaret and attend the reading with her, while Eileen and Rigby think they can see the flower bloom and still make it to the poetry event.
What really struck me about these episodes is how much the creators clearly care about everyone besides Mordecai and Rigby. Those two have gotten tons of focus over the years, so it’s cool to see the show finally giving the side characters some love. I’ve always been a big fan of Margaret, and I was really happy the “Corpse Flower” episode spent time showing her personality and how much it means to her when her friends actually show interest in what she likes – it’s awesome to see that dynamic with someone other than Mordecai for a change.

The Lost Tapes captures the same witty humor and heartfelt character moments that made Regular Show so popular. These two episodes are a great way to re-enter that world, even though we haven’t seen much of the full group yet – characters like Skips, Benson, and Muscle Man haven’t had their chance to shine.
As a huge fan, I’m loving how ‘The Lost Tapes’ does what ‘Regular Show’ always excelled at: taking everyday stuff and making it totally awesome. It’s definitely silly at times, but it never goes too far. I really appreciate that JG Quintel and the team know when to hold back – they don’t overdo the crazy. It’s easy to get caught up in all the fun, but there’s a surprising amount of heart and relatable humor in the characters and situations, which I think will appeal to everyone.
It’s really exciting to see Regular Show back and doing well after so many years. The recent teaser gives us a taste of what to expect – self-contained, fun episodes that will eventually lead into a bigger story. Even though it’s been almost ten years since the show originally ended, there’s still plenty of story left to tell, and it’s clear this new season is made with longtime fans in mind.

A new 30-minute special of Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, featuring the episodes “Coffee Shop Wars” and “Corpse Flower,” is available today! We also have an exclusive interview with the show’s creator, JG Quintel, and voice actor Sam Marin, where they discuss revisiting the series after a long break.
We’re giving away Regular Show: The Lost Tapes prize packs and goodies! Be sure to enter by May 14th for a chance to win.
