Nintendo Is Changing Store Name To Something Worse

Nintendo revealed it’s renaming one of its online services with a fairly generic name, continuing a trend of moving away from the creative and memorable titles it once used for its products.

Some people are disappointed that the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn’t seem to be pushing boundaries like some of Nintendo’s past consoles. After the Wii U didn’t perform as well as hoped, Nintendo appears to be playing it safe with the new Switch, focusing on improved power rather than introducing innovative new features.

Nintendo is simplifying things! They’ve announced that My Nintendo will now be known as the Nintendo Store, marking a shift away from the company’s history of unusual service names.

My Nintendo Is Changing To Nintendo Store

Nintendo’s online store was previously called My Nintendo. Players used it to buy games and items, and to spend points they’d collected. Recently, Nintendo changed the name to better describe what the store actually does.

The name ‘My Nintendo’ was catchy and stood out, particularly since competitors like PlayStation and Microsoft simply used their store names for digital purchases. This change feels like another move towards making Nintendo products less unique.

My Nintendo was an online shop where players could buy games and merchandise using Platinum Points earned through gameplay and other activities.

Nintendo also operates official stores in various locations, and the removal of “My” from the Nintendo Store name may cause confusion with these existing brick-and-mortar locations, a problem that didn’t exist before.
